Hey guys,

Well I am trying to decide on replacement turbos for my rb26/30. Currently runs 9:1 CR and had early Nismo's on it previously. Despite the Nismo's being dog like, it was still reasonable.

So basically I can get hold of either a set of low k gt-ss -9 turbo's, OR a genuine 7 blade HX35W and a rb25det nissan manifold. The idea was to have the rb25det manifold professionally modified by changing the runner orientation, as I would like to keep it low mount due to the lack of space with the 30.

I know I will need a new front pipe etc. Most of the modding to fit the holset I am cool with, so the big questions, is it worth it?

Is the pain and agony of modding the holset in, worth it over just fitting the gt-ss turbos?

Let me know your thoughts.

Cheers.

-9s are on the limit on a 2.6 in terms of nosing over.

-5s really are the "sweet" spot in terms of turbo choice for the 3ltr - they are the "-9" for 3ltr in a round about way.

Honestly - I feel whilst -9 would be wicked responsive, they are too small.

Perhaps buy -9s, sell them & buy -5s :D

Well as I keep saying I'm not a GTR person but those that are always reckoned that RB26 style HKS GT2530s work pretty well on a GTR , provided you don't expect them to spool up any sooner than std turbos .

I reckon you could do worse than to use these turbos on a 2630 because you know they are direct fit and the difference is that they may come on ~ 15% earlier with an extra 400cc's driving them .

There really is a lot of money tied up in single turbo conversions and its a real downer if it does not meet your expectations .

A .

I can tell you now 2530's on a 2.6l spool significantly later than factory :)

On a 3ltr though it would be quite similar IMO.

Thank f*** I have been waiting to see a 2630 with -5s since my interest in skylines began.

Wise choise Indy.

+1

There has been so much talk of people wanting to try -5's on a 3lt will be great to see some results.

Probably a bit late now, but would you have seriously put in all that time and effort to stick a diesel turbo on it when you had the gtss option?

The results are ok i guess, pretty good for a cheap turbo, but nothing special. twin gtss's on the other hand i would expect to be pretty impressive.

Having driven a GT-SS powered RB26 (standard bottom end) with a slightly tickled head.

I can say that they are too small by a significant margin.

Car was an R32 GT-R standard weight with just bolt on Mods.

But my god was it fast through our favorite mountain roads up here.

Uphill 4wd powerskiding through hairpin turns sort of fast...

However it nosed over in the top end 170KM++++
