Hey guys, i had the following installed today

Npc 5 puk button clutch

Nismo pivot ball

Brand new thrust bearing

Here's the problem... At most times in first gear or reverse just as im about to take off, i get a grinding noise coming from the gearbox area. However driving the car is normal at speed.

The other problem is the gearbox is whining under full throttle.. Im also down on power by a fair bit.

Flywheel has been machined, iv done a search but couldnt find the answer to my problem. Could it be a diff issue? The grinding issue started after the clutch change. The whining noise started when my OLD clutch started to slip and is still there after clutch change.

Can anyone help me?

haha funnily enough im having this exact same issue, clutch changed, and now when say stopping at lights but before i stop n put into first, lights go green, so stay in second and keep going, i get a grinding noise from the gearbox region, same if i stay in second and go around a round about or something..

strange :S

You may have done what i did actidentally and have put the thrust bearing in backwards.

there is a right and wrong to put it in, i had to pull out the gearbox and get an new one.

Thanks for replies..

Grinding noise seems to be gone now... weird

BUT, still have the whining noise at full boost sometimes. I get loss of power and black smoke out the exhaust ONLY when i hear the whining noise, then a little idle dipping after i slow down. I think it's a boost leak.... What do you's think? I'll check all my piping and tighten everything up tomorrow.

Oh and the car is still making normal boost..... Just feels very low on power along with that annoying whine.

A leak in the intake can cause black smoke. I had a leak once where I spliced for my boost controller. I would shit out smoke like no tomorrow. All was normal when I fixed that up. It could also be the reason you get the idle dip when clutching in after boost, I had that same symptom.

The grinding noise could have been the clutch settling in. They say drive the car normal for about 100km then do a couple of clutch dumps. A freshly machined fly wheel will need to get the new clutch material on it.

As for the whine sound, every single R33 Ive sat in(and that is a few), if you listen closely they have a whine to them when the foot is off the clutch. If it gets louder when you are driving, there is some bearing which needs to be changed. Its not the throw out bearing(obviously) I think its the input shaft bearing. Don't worry about that whine, it will not be the cause of your power loss. Get it on a dyno and they will check it out. I'd prefer to pay $100 for an hour of dyno work to sus out a problem than $600 to get the box pulled out again and checked.

If you run a cheap short shifter, the noise will be amplified. If it wasn't for the amazingly short throw, I would have thrown my short shifter through someones window by now.
