After deciding to sell my DR30 (which was a painful decision) to keep my R33GTR I received this assesment of my Passion for Skylines from the Classic resident self proclaimed font of ALL knowledge

Do I lack Passion because I kept my GTR?

Should I feel as insulted as I do or just laugh it off?

There is NO PASSION anymore?

Without inciting a riot, I would have sold the GTR.

IMHO they are like dunnydores, falcons & arseholes .......................... everybody has one

Everytime I get my Paul Newmans on the road I get stares and looks from everybody. 350Z, 370, R32, R33, R34 & R35 owners all slide up beside me on the road and just look, cruising beside me for a few minutes before disappearing into the dust, but an R33 I bet doesn't get the same attention, because it's just another grey import Skyline eh!

The interesting thing about our old classics is this; my friends that own current model $180000.00 GTR's all want to drive my DR and or HR30's because the technology in the latest cars nearly have them driving themselves with next to nil driver input.

I suppose we can get solace in the fact that when our classics are selling for $30000.00 plus, the R33's will be selling for $3000.00 or less

Why would you feel insulted?

Everyone has an opinion and if he feels that way then so be it.

If it helps any, I also would have kept the R33... not everyone has to cling to the past and some of us LIKE the technology assisting us, though I understand the whole feel of owning a raw classic.

Yeah maybe insulted was the wrong word...Angry might be a better term

It was a very hard desision for me as I loved both cars

My wife preferred the 33 plus I'd found someone I trusted who would look after the DR30 and appreciate the time and money I'd already invested.

For the record here is a pic of my Arsehole :nyaanyaa:

what do you care what some muppet reckons... grass is always greener... I look at guys in old school Dattos etc and think hell yeah, would love something like that etc... then they're giving me the thumbs up telling me to get on it so they can hear the 26 scream

what we really need is a 10 car garage and lots of spare cash!

Hahaha...that's what I would do.

It's quite clear from what they wrote that the most significant reason for driving a "classic" DR30 is to get positive attention from others. Kinda sad really that the enjoyment doesn't come from within.....but then they do drive a DR30 :nyaanyaa:

The fact is that the 350z, 370z, R32, R33 and R34 (2WD models) have EXTREMELY little of this "new technology" that means they practically drive themselves. Everything can be turned off (except ABS...which my crappy R33 doesn't have anyway). I can't think of a single area of superiority of a DR30 except it is rare and car geeks will stare at you.

The comments may have merit when talking about an R35 GTR (which everyone RAVES about), an Evo, an Sti, Golf R or many other modern cars with ESC, EBD, active steering etc.

I think by "drive itself" he means a car that doesn't bend with the corners like it's made of plasticine.

Old people who's brains can't keep up with modern technology have been using excuses such as these since the invention of the wheel....which practically drove itself.

R33 are everywhere.

How often do you see a DR30?

R32 / R33 / R34 GTR's in Japan are like the Holden SS / Ford XR8's in AUS... Vice Versa.

Then you get Nismo vs HSV / FPV.

I don't now where you guys live, but GT-R's are few and far in-between - yes, your normal GT-T's and GTS-T's are failry common, but I rarely ever see another GT-R - last weekend I saw one, my one, and that's it. Even in Japan GT-R is a rare sight.

Don't know the guy, but it sounds like someone justifying their choice.

The reason why 33's/34's and 32's are like holden's/fords here is simply because their pretty much the best value cars on the market.

Nothing really even comes close. As for owners of $180000 cars wanting to drive a DR30, yeah maybe for what 15 seconds.

How many of those same owners would sawp an R35 for a DR30. I'd bet my house its probably around 0!!

To me its a no brainer and you definitely made the right choice. A DR30 paul newman or anything will only ever have value amongst true Skyline enthusiasts, and thats it. Outside of the Skyline community i doubt anyone knows what it is. Its a classic skyline, but a true classic car. I really doubt it.

On the other hand a GTR any model, is well, a GTR :)

Yeah, that is what I meant :)

As for GTR, not as common, but you do see them around, bit more common then the R32 and R34 GTR's.

R34, i can understand your miffed. Just because everyone has opinions it doesn't necessarily mean they should voice them.

As for your decision, it was yours to make.

EDIT: wow talk about over zealous and it don't matter who's section that is cos it ain't the wasteland.

i have ben in australia sence 2006 and in that time my eyes have only seen 12 skylines (lived in outback QLD and now rual tassie) . now im not an expert or even a die hard but there are LOADS more falcon and comadores around. to me a skyline is in its own class cuz it is just that in its own class just stunning to look at.

and like has ben said everyone has an openion on things and are free to voice them. you are free to not give a *&^% so i wouldent let it bother you you love your car and thats all that should mater. nice rims by the way

No doubt these older cars are starting to become appealing to me; but there is no way that I would sell my GTR for one. Sure values of GTR's aren't crash hot anymore but who cares.

I am sure there was a point when people would not have cared at all for DR30 and older cars. Like all things its just a cycle.

Give it 20 years and people maybe chasing for gtr's again..........maybe :)

I personally doubt thats going to happen anytime soon, but hey I've been wrong about other things.

Yeah I think you hit the nail on the head there mate.

All cars prices drop continually to a point where they become so rare prices go up. How far who knows.

When I was driving around in near new 240K's proclaimed as the ugliest car around other than the 120Y I never would have dreamt they'd become uber cool and desireable in the next century.

Anyway my issue is now resolved and I'm over it so thanks for your input everyone.

wow, i just looked up a dr30, its almost as ugly as a r31, it is not a classic, just another car made in the 80's, classics that i see from that era would have to be far and few, audi urquattro is the main one, a lancia delta integral too, and that just about skims it.

classics to me are 300sl gullwings, dodge charges, the hemi cudas, stylish old cars, they are classics, this thing is just a tin can with a turbo attached, on a scale of 0-10, looks: 0.000005 performance: 3 value: 1

i do admit that the r33 isnt much better either, but this is all just a personal view, but id rather a gtr than that tin can car.

also im quite sure even a r32-r34 gtr has little to no advanced electronics or driver aid technology compared to that DR30. we have traction control and abs, BOTH of which you can turn off if you want.
