Some more idiots out there f**k it for the rest of us. At least on the news they showed Bob Jane making some comment about there not being enough legal drag strips available.

so im just gonna put it out there the little i have read/seen about it

didnt the guy who died (sad) not give way? i mean ok they were speeding but aside from that he failed to give way

if im wrong apologies like i said havent looked into it deeply.

I know what you mean, but they were apparently doing 120+ in a 60 zone. Sometimes I just glance, see enough distance (it they were doing the limit) and pull out. I wouldn't have noticed the higher speed.

These guys are doing almost twice the legal speed limit. So he could have (& can only guess, most likely did) looked, saw they were a fair distance away, (not realising the speed they're travelling at) pulled out, then next thing they're on top of him...

Edit: Beat me to it Kieran

My deepest sympathies to the victim and his family. This could have been prevented.

As for Alex, the news did say he (the victim) underestimated the speed of the oncoming cars. So maybe he thought he could make the turn before they crossed the intersection.

Possible he might not have given way...but that can't be proved, where as the speeding can...so that's all that matters really. The idea of the speed limit is so that they have time to react to someone pulling out on them or walking off the curb, even if that person is doing something illegal.

Yeah its melbourne man who the f**k gives way in melbourne anymore, everybody just pulls out and not hitting them is your problem..

I had a truck pull out of a driveway across both lanes today right in front of me despite having a clear view of me coming. I locked up skids heading for the gutter just pulled it up in time not to hit anything and the kuntface asian driving it was just having a giggle..

have you seen the signs on the western ring road around pascoe vale

"PLEASE DONT TAILGATE IT MAY CAUSE MAYHEM"

The fact that people need to be told this is ridiculous, and i watch people there pull out of traffic onto freeway on ramps just to merge back in 2 car spaces ahead, seriously the stu[pidity of these people amazes me..

Anyway little off topic but yeah, Drag racing is bad mmk ,if you drag race you are bad mmmk.. seriously how many more dopey bastards stepping or driving out in front of speeding cars have to die before speeding and drag racing is made illegal

That spot is such a shit spot to turn, because when you look left, you can't see that far because there's a little hill, so if there's a car coming at 130km, you wouldn't see it coming at all.

How ironic, there was a Supra in the background and then a silver Skyline driving pass lol

my condolences go out to the family involved.

but really how can the "states top cop" blatantly dismiss the need for legal drag strips and then says "theres some evidence it may make the problem worse"... care to elaborate mister top cop?

lol @ evidence it may make the problem worse...love to hear what evidence that is. That's the problem with our state government and the whole hoons thing...they would not be willing to try a solution if it means working with, no matter how effective the solution may be. It's an "us and them", and the authorities instigate that relationship more than the hoons do.

I work opposite where this happened, that intersection has a blind spot from oncoming traffic as there is a small hill before the intersection.

Anyone driving in any car would of got hit if they pulled out with cars coming down the hwy at that speed....you would have 2-3 seconds tops before seeing someone!

The next day in the same spot I see people going 80 to 90k over that hill....no one gives a shit about speed limits in Dandenong!

Looks like a very dangerous intersection!

Please tell me there's a speed camera there.

‘‘You certainly hear a lot of hoons hooning their engines around,’’ he told radio 3AW.

im not sure if its me or what, but i find this statement really funny.

"At the time of the crash, police estimate the Honda driver was speeding at 104km/h in an area where the speed limit drops from 80km/h to 60km/h."

The speeding doesnt sound that severe. If its only just changed down from 80km/h then the driver is only doing 24km/h over. I am not saying its acceptable I am just saying that to have an accident on the front corner of the turning car there really mustnt be a lot of time there, even at the speed limit.

And from all the other reports the intersection sounds dangerous. When do the authorities actually acknowledge and say yes this intersection needs to be improved.

of course it can if he was slammed into in the middle of the road then he has failed to give way if i pulled out across traffic that wasnt speeding and got hit its still my fault.

so they 100% can prove if he failed to give why by where the initial impact happened.

    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.
    • Thanks for taking the time to post that ! If anything changes or happens please do update us.
    • Somehow Vertimass/Oak Ridge National Labs has figured out a catalyst that can convert ethanol into C9-C10 hydrocarbons in basically a single step without ending up with a bunch of ethylene or similar waste products: https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2023224867A1/en I still don't think anything like this will keep us from needing to transition to EVs regardless along with all kinds of other electrification, but things like this will go a long way towards alleviating the problem of how to electrify things like planes. Renewable diesel is seemingly an easier problem as well, Chevron is already running refineries for the stuff and the primary feedstock is tallow and other waste fats from agriculture.
    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise
