yeh thats interesting. mine is insured for 17,500 - i'd be ropeable with a glass guide value.

i remember a had a skyline written off (i was not at fault)and their insurance comapny offered me SFA - so i got an independent assessment done by a registered assessor - and he assessed it as being worth twice the value they initially offered, and that was the exact value i got PLUS the cost of the assessor.

Surely, with it being the other party paying for the damage, you keep the car even though it's a write-off. Their insurance is paying for it nor yours. Or am I mistaken????

Also wouldn't accept anything less than the value on your policy. After all it's most probably agreed value not market value!!!

russell, if either insurance company 'pays out' on a write off, they own the vehicle - that's what they pay out is for.

you can offer to purchase the vehicle back off the insurance company, but you have to express this wish BEFORE they pay out and they can decline your wish or they will set the figure for retaining the salvage - and you can either pay that figure or leave it - and then they will deduct that from the payout amount

if you don't express your wish to purchase the vehicle before payout figure is quoted, you'll have to buy it back from my work - we sell the salvage vehicles for all major insurance companies in australia ;-)

When AAMI paid out for my written off m35, they paid the a value from some guide (not redbook). Ended up well for meas the guide had its value at $19,700.

From this figure they deducted the remaining rego and ctp value, they also advised pickles would take the wreckfor $820, what a joke. The guy i spoke to from AAMI, told me to sell it privately so they deducted that $820 from the remaining payout and i ended up with $18,316. Not bad when i was not insured myself, i was expecting to get bent over and then some.

Hopefully this brings you some hope.

As I only have a 3rd party fire and theft policy on my car i dont have it insured at an agreed value, therefore I think my hands are pretty tied as for my options...

I'm still waiting for the car to be assessed, I really can't wait to see what they say. One thing for sure though, as I'm 30 this year I'll be taking full comprehensive for sure!

EDIT - if it does get written off, i have a set of stock 16" rims you could throw on it (if they won't let you keep the wreck)

Sorry to see another stagea wreck, hope you end up getting what you want for it (the old bag going up your bum should help with pointing the finger) and glad to hear that it kept you and the little one safe (specialy now I've got one on the way)

Shoot me a P.M. if you are able to wreck a few things off it, I need a rubber around the l/h fender indicator and a drivers side cargo barrier hook

ANOTHER elderly driver hitting a Stagea??? ... and in a Pulsar also???

My Stagea got hit over a fortnight ago but an elderly Pulsar driver. Pulsar came out of a side street after stopping. I'm sure he saw me clear as day, but pulled out anyway. Sideswipe damage all down the LHS of the Stag ... and 9 days before my wedding too. The Stagea was one of the wedding cars. :down:

Cunning old bastard he was. Kept trying to put words in my mouth that I didn't see him. I didn't fall for it. He is 100% in the wrong. Cops and insurer agrees also. Car goes into the repairers on the 18th April for a complete repair and full respray (I'm paying extra for the full respray).

My friend had his chaser written off and they paid him out for it AND let him keep it.

was just rear damage so hes still got vvti 1jz and all the mods :thumbsup:

    • I haven’t taken them out of the cases yet    inside the box is this packaging which is pretty much like a massive blister pack

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.  
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
