It's all a mess!

Its-all-a-mess.jpg

Yeah the garage hasn’t looked like this in quite a while. I’ve got all sorts of stuff sitting in here, waiting to make it’s way into the Stagea.

Today I picked up most of the remaining parts for the manual conversion. There is a wreckerin Wetherill Park called “Skyline Spares”, and Erwin sorted me out with a clutch pedal, master cylinder, slave and other little bits and bobs. Erwin actually owns a Stagea too!

Let’s see, what else is there. Oh, the Greddy E-manage Ultimate and C’s short shifter for the R32 GT-R box arrived today too. I also ordered a Greddy style inter cooler kit which should be at my door sometime soon.

A bump in the road

watermark-Bottom-right.jpg

A big bump in the road, there’s been another twist to my story with the Stagea. This afternoon, I got a phone call from Julie as she got home before me. She then told me the bad news.

Remember that mischief I got upto when I was on the outskirts of Geelong? well that has bitten me in the arse, much more than I thought it would.

“The RTA has received information from VicRoads, the driver licensing authority in Victoria, about a licence sanction imposed against you for a period of six months suspension in that state. As a result, the RTA does not consider you a fit and proper person to hold a driver licence in NSW for a period consistent with the sanction imposed in Victoria”.

COOL STORY BRO!

So I’ve got four days until I have a suspended licence. I’m unsure what I should do with the Stagea within the four month period. Do everything according to plan and let it sit at home for the time, or do I get rid of it and buy another car when I get my licence back, hmm.

damn that sucks big time dude! id say you got you got more time with the car off the road to do your manual trans conversion and get some stuff like that sorted. no point in it sitting there for 4 months and then you get it back and it goes off the road again.

4 years ago i lost my privledges to drive in NSW for 12 months but was ACT licenced so i could still drive in ACT. wore a massive fine and the cop said if i had a NSW license it would have been torn up by him and thrown me in a paddy wagon.

keep the stagea for sure. get your manual concersion done, maybe slide in an rb26dett while you're bored. you'll just have to trailer to the skid pan events so that you can still get out there and drive it.

Umad bros?

anywhos, the intercooler kit arrived today, so just a few little bits and pieces left until it goes to Dahtone ... thinking of upgrading the brakes at the same time now that I'm not going to be driving it.

Skids, EC, tonight! I'm going to hit up peanut f**k it.

Adam, you could give all the parts to me to put on my Stag and i can let you know how they perform!!

Bummer about your licence, when i first came here from the Uk in 2006, i got caught speeding 5 times in 1 day (princess freeway to Geelong and back to melbourne), if i had an Aussie licence i would have been banned but since i had a uk one i got a $500 fine and no demerit points.

Driving Sports – Twilight Drift June 03/06/11

XxUgt.jpg

A drifting event right at the beginning of the month, what’s not to love? I’ve been getting sick of hanging on the skid pan, and I don’t think I’ll be doing any driving on the track anytime soon, so I said to myself ”f**k it, I’m not waiting until it’s manual to hit up the peanut, let’s see what it’s got”.

As soon as I signed in, passed scrutineering I was lined up on the peanut and ready to roll. That smell of burnt rubber is something I hang for, I’m actually suprised that scent could get through my blocked nose seeing that I’ve had a cold all week!

In a nutshell, the Stagea managed to do this.

Drivng-Sports-Twilight-Drift-June-04.jpg

I was quite proud to see the “damage” I did to the tyres within a few sessions. I was also quite surprised I managed to link most of the track with the Stagea on 5PSI and auto. This thing has a bucket-load of potential!

Drivng-Sports-Twilight-Drift-June-05.jpg

I’m not going to lie, I did come off the track quite a few times but that just adds to the fun. The Stagea was a champ the whole night, yet again I haven’t had a problem with it and last night I was pretty much on the limiter constantly.

Silly me brought only a pair of tyres for the night, in my mind I was thinking they’d be enough (I did the same thing with the MX-5 a few times too), but they weren’t and I went back to the skid pan the rest of the event. I should really start bringing all the tyres I can now, seeing that I’ve got room to carry them all.

Nah I don't aye! thanks for reminding me though! I'll sort out a camera mount before next drift night.

Painted and put the eyelids on yesterday, not sure if want ... will post more about that later.

Mascara

IMG_2283.jpg

Over the weekend I was forever alone at home. So I made some use of it and finally got around to painting the Chargespeed eyelids.

I got the paint from a place called Peps auto spares, I’m sure you Aussie readers have heard of the name before. My Stagea’s colour code is KR4, and little did I know it is the same colour on the kouki Stageas too. I didn’t primer the eyelids, instead I just sanded them back with 1200 grit wet/dry sandpaper, cleaned them up with wax and grease remover, and applied the paint along with a few coats of clear.

I let them sit overnight to dry, then fitted them the following day. At first I wasn’t too set on them but they have grown on me.

    • The cross sectional area of a circular hole scales with the square of diameter. So a 2mm diameter hole is 4x the area of a 1mm hole. Not double. The 1.7mm hole is nearly 3x the area of a 1mm hole. You do not need restrictors at both ends of the oil supply line. If you have new, additional restrictors at the turbo end, that you did not have before, then you do not need a restrictor at the inlet end.
    • Hi all. Been a while but things are moving along. I just have something that I am wondering about. Since I will use OEM turbo oil pumbing, I got myself a new bolt, the one that goes into the engine block oil feed. As I recall (and see visually) this bolt comes restricted with I think a 1.7mm hole? Not quite sure but it was something around that size. The turbos have 1mm restrictor bolts installed, as necessary due to ball bearings and my higher oil pressures. Can I now just use that OEM bolt with the 1.7mm hole in for the engine block or will this actually be too much oil flow restriction and I have to drill it out first? In my head it would make sense for the bolt to be at least 2mm wide as both turbos take "1mm of oil flow". Do let me know if my logic is flawed here, I just want to make sure I don't kill my turbo bearings with too little oil. Don't know if I can trust the saying I read somewhere that ball bearing turbos essentially only need an oil mist

    • Yeah based on old XRC5964S specs, it looks to be roughly GTX3576R sized? But this 5964S compressor will flow 90lb airflow somewhat similar to the compressors in both the GTX3584RS or G35-1050.. I fully expected the 0.64 rear A/R to choke up top - seems way too small from typical convention - but these are seemingly beneficial over the prior 0.82 results.. Be interesting to see if he comments on the EFR question in that thread - he mentioned in a prior video that BW EFR's were the "cats pajamas 10 years ago", but by the sounds of things all his kits have been using Xona for quite a while now.
    • Yeah it’s still got the oem manual gearbox and clutch, only kinda mods are a blow off valve, coil overs, and a aftermarket intercooler. Also had it for about 2 months now with a lovely midnight purple paint on it.
