Squeal After New Timing Belt

If it's just after a cold start, check your alternator belt, it maybe a bit loose.

On initial start, the alternator is trying to re-charge the battery so the load on the drive belt is substantial.

All the belts have to come off to do this job so it makes sense to check them again after the car has done a few K's.

Thanks for the replies guys, very helpful.

I started the car this morning to see what noise(s) it will make.

It only made a very small squeal this time, however I did notice for a few seconds it clearly sounded like a belt wasn't even turning, which then kicked in with what sounded like the fan belt.

Would this be consistent with a loose fan belt?

My old skyline done something similar and if I revved it, smoke would come out because the belt was loose and scrubbed against the pulley because it wasn't spinning with the engine. Press on the belts and they should all have roughly the same tension. If one is looser than the other, tighten it as necessary. Get a piece of hose and carefully put it near the belts to pin point the sound.

If it sounded like the belt is slipping then obviously a belt is very loose. When the belts are cold they are alot stiffer and are more prone to slippage.

Just an update.

I had inspected the belts while I got a mate to cold start the car.

All the belts were running fine but for a few seconds it seemed like they were all running slow or under load, then after 2-3 seconds it ran normal. It also didn't squeal this particular time.
