She'll teach you how to spin the front wheels...

 This may happen!

LOL! Reminds me of the Missus claiming she spun the rears in the Micra.

Stick a Nerf Ball under the loud pedal Mat... Squeeze it on.

 do a skid!

Car has enough balls as it is thanks :P

Carmen's advice - don't...crash.... haha

Probably should listen to this one!

We will take turns with binary foot hahaha

Only if you want to catch a flu/cold :(

SAU NSW cruise soon? lol

I can hang with the big boys now - because gate.

There's one up to Bateau bay next month, should be a really good day cos the last few have. Terry even agreed it might be time to bring his 34 out ;)

  • 1 month later...

So its been ages with no updates... I have been flat out with work and travelling interstate etc BUT i am back and will be able to get back on top of things once again... That is not to say the car has been getting neglected, in fact far from it ;) Its been booked in back at Road 2 Race for more alignment and also a general look over and also heading back to JEM just for a health check. So many thing happening...

So firstly, the track day run by RTDC on Anzac day was a success... It was a shitty day due to a few reasons but overall i was happy with it... The day started at 1am with a bloody storm and my crazy ass dog skitzing out so there was no sleep through until the 3am alarm we had set... So we had to tie the dog up and baracade them in the back room just so he didn't hurt himself through the storm... Then the fun part, towing the car through the storm in pitch black in the landcruiser with 35s on it in the wet... Lets just say by the time i got to the track i was fkn tired and a bit over it all, to top it off i had the bloody flu lol (wow i am a real sook :woot: )

It was good to finally get to Scrutineering at least, luckily i got number 3 so i just pulled the 1 off the window lol

Anyway, first session out i had no idea what to expect of the car, new rear tyres and completely changed suspension setup... Did the first few laps and thought WOW it was easy to drive... The tyre pressures were way too high so i pulled in and dropped them down using the new pit equipment (Carmen is in charge of all the pit data for me hehe) -

IMG_8326_zpscf4e7970.jpg

We fed the data back to Peter from Road2Race and it was mentioned that the pressures would be fine where we set them but the car needed more camber in the front, as there was nothing we could do about that on the day i just got back in and drove...

On the first session i was caught behind a numpty in a blue Evo that dumped oil all over the racing line and spun right in front of me as his sump plug came out (True story) so after getting the shits with him we had to stay of the racing line and the first session had one flying lap which was a 1.07 something... Was still faster than my old PB but nothing to get excited about.

Pic thanks to Theo!!

Pic thanks to Alex or Ciaron, cant recall lol

The second session was a bit better as i had no traffic issues, this was a great run and apart from a couple of big slides over the back of the hill i found the car was quite fun to drive... Keeping in mind i had the boost controller turned OFF all day and was running just the lazy 15psi gate pressure so it was certainly a lot less power than i am used too. After running the car hard for the entire session i came in with a 1.059 which was the new PB for me, i felt there was a lot more in the car but was happy at that stage. I did hear a knock from under the car which threw me off for the last few laps...

Third session out was the final session for me, at that stage in the day i was tired and feeling like shit but also concerned about the knock under the car, it was loud and hard to concentrate with it sounding like shit was going to fall off :P I should have stayed for the last couple of sessions and kept knocking down times but i was pretty happy with where it was at and found the tyres didn't have much more to give either (Front tyres that is, the hankooks on the rear held up fine).

So at the end of the day i was pretty happy with how it all went and decided we would be better loading up and heading home while i was still awake... I noticed that all the quicker cars were running on proper tyres. Semi slicks was something i have wanted to try for quite a while and had been saving for... A couple of messages back and forth to John Boston secured me a set of Hankook Z221 Medium semis to try out, these will fit nicely with the new 34GTR rims i have for the car -

You don't need throttle control for the straight though! Well not unless you are slide the whole way :P

After watching a few cars do some rolls at Wakie i figured i better prep the car for roof slides :P Unfortunately i sold the old Recaro i had but still have the cage setup and have arranged for it to go into the car and be CAMS approved etc

    • What could be causing my clutch problem besides a bad master or slave then? Both those parts are new
    • Just came across this, but in QLD I start leave again in 2 weeks, if it is still available I might drive up and check it out Unless, @MBS206 do you live near here????, if so I could hit you up with a finders fee https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/hope-island/auto-body-parts/nc-mx5-factory-hard-top/1328976391
    • My hold point for future mods is that I want a OEM detachable hard top first, but, finding one is a pain, MX5 Mania are looking for one for me, but, as hens teeth are more common, finding one in Australia is proving problematic  I can get a OEM one from overseas, hell, you can still get new ones in 'Merica, but, shipping is a absolute killer and I cannot justify the cost, or the risk of it being damaged during transport As for the aftermarket hardtops, whilst they do the job of being a hard top, and are fine for a track car, they don't seal well (read: leak like a sieve in the rain), and you need a plastic/poly rear window, plus they are a bolt in option only and not made to be easily removed I liked how the hard top on my NB could be fitted, and removed, by myself, in less than 5 minutes I know it sounds bad, but I'm waiting for someone to write off a car with one so I can swoop in on their pain, it will go to a good home though, so my guilt of this is tempered
    • I’ve got one on mine and it’s fine,
    • No, you don't want to plug the vacuum line, as that will turn that side of the booster into an air spring and probably make it feel worse. I'm not saying that the GTR master itself doesn't need a booster. I haven't paid attention to the GTR one to know what size it is cf the non-GTR ones. But when you think about it - they have to do the same job, which is to move a little slave piston a few mm to do what it is supposed to do, and that final action is the same on all the cars. So, it is very unlikely that the GTR MC is any different than the others, because it has the same pedal stroke and the same output requirement. The booster just makes it feel easier. I'd suggest you probably have an actual hydraulic problem. It's totally common on these old shitboxes.
