Sounds pretty menacing Matt!!

Yeah thanks mate! Have driven it a bit lately despite the bloody oil leak but it does sound pretty nuts on high boost :D

Hence why this is appropriate lol -

So much love for this car and the blacked out look you've got

Yeah thanks... Been a bit quiet with updates lately as i've had the shits with it since i picked it up... I'll be happy once the oil leak is sorted and its back on the track!

Where do you get that heat shield stuff from? The one next to the strut and power steer?

Mike I've seen this stuff:

at Motorsport Connection & Autobahn (suprising eh?)

I have been slack as usual and been too busy to get online... I figured i better chuck up some updates...

Oil leak - Sorted... JEM spent ages working on it for me on the day of the track day to make sure i made it on time, took all the covers off and washed it down then reassembled without the cam covers etc, took it on a long test drive and got it too leak again, it was the VCT cam seal leaking and it looks like excessive wear on the sealing surface itself possibly, anyway it was all cleaned and resealed and no more leaks so job done!

So track day... Not much luck once again but i guess still teething issues and one was my mistake! Buying that GKTECH fan was a big waste of time and money.... At idle the car will slowly creep up in temperature but once light cruising it sits right down low.... At high speed the car gets hot now and its possible the fan blades are actually restricting airflow instead of improving it... Either way its the only real change to the cooling system and apart from the radiator letting go its been bullet proof in the past.

In the pits with Mr Deka -

After surviving 15mins on the track -

The front tyres did not survive 15mins on the track and were shithouse after a few laps, doesnt help the outside edges are gone to start with though lol -

I could have taken some pressure out but i wanted to get home as it had been a long day so i didnt bother... I went out for another outlap and that was the end of the day unfortunately -

So i got closer to home and thought ill give it some beans just for lulz.... Turns out Mr Haltech hit boost cut.... Never happened before so i just cruised home and put the car away....

I finally got around to checking the car and found the cable ties holding the boost lines together have melted :/ And this was the result -

So no boost control!

I agree with you on the gktech going back standard when it arrives

Good stuff! Cant believe they can sell something that doesnt work... Most of their products seem really good and funnily enough most of the SR guys rave about the fans! Anyway, going back to standard either way and will hope that was the only issue.

My mate had one of those fans on his SR and he ended up having to sell it because his car wouldn't even hit running temperature on the dyno. Seems crazy they'd work so good on SR's but not RB's :S

Yeah i dont know, but it seems to be the general concensus with most people.... RB = No no and SR = Yes

OEM RB fans flow higher than SR fans to start with, but apparently not as much as the GKTech item either.

GKTech fan works just fine in my car - Mat knows this after we compared temps at Texi!

Put the stocker back in and see if that cures it on the track. Lets not rubbish it until we know there isn't another issue in the system.

    • No. I think it's gone. 😭 I think you can get body coloured ones on eBay so I think I'll get one of those... Or just hang a red ribbon from the hole and whack a TOW sticker next to it.
    • Can't say I've had a bad experience with one on my car, then again it only gets washed once or twice a year... The wheels on the other hand, get a good spray often due to my shitty dusty pads.
    • @MBS206 thats pretty neat and tidy to me!  I'll get a photo of mine when I'm out there next. It might require multiple photos to understand the scale of the atrocities though... In total I have 4 sheds of varying sizes and layouts. Main shed is 14x8, second shed is 3x8, third shed is 11x2.5, fourth shed is around 6x4.  All are pretty much full.   The main goal of my cleaning tsunami is to make the main shed predominantly car and motorbikes only. Second shed is my metal fab room (2 x bench grinders, drill press, bench belt sander, metal band saw, scrap metal storage and some of my garden tools.  3rd shed is more bigger garden stuff, storage for engine crane, jack stands, concrete grinder, concrete mixer, air compressor lives there, and it now has two 2mx2m pallet racking shelves with itemised boxes holding building stuff, electrical stuff, plumbing stuff, etc, etc.  The 4th shed is Ryobi electric ride on mower, mini boom sprayer, ancient Kubota tractor, more garden stuff!  I have got a lot of shit....  Then there's the pool house (8mx4m) and the pool pump shed (4mx4m).  I built all of the sheds over the 11 years we've been here.  The main shed was a Ranbuild kit, the rest are all custom made to fit the areas available. Building the main shed taught me a LOT as I had no idea about building anything prior to that!  I've still got one more in me. It will be my man cave which I poured the extra concrete for way back when I poured the concrete for the main shed. The idea is the Skyline will be a centre piece of the main cave once (if...) it's finished.  I told my now 14 year old son yesterday that I will 100% drive him to his year 10 formal in 2 years. Still a long way off but at least I now have a date to work towards! 🤣
    • Modern oils are amazing. Add tyres to that as well.
    • Probably a smart choice to buy one vs build, purely for the motivation part as you said! Imagine the metal dust everywhere from grinding all the steel to build one. Ha ha ha!   Also, post a photo of your garage.   Mine is below, this is where I've been cleaning and have already half filled a caged 6*4 trailer. And this is after my cleaning expedition mentioned previously... The middle normally has a car in it, but I'm dumping things in the middle as I sort through them. And poor skyline was dusty and has had the lightest few drops of rain and now it looks atrocious and needs to be dragged back out and washed thoroughly! And yes to the right is technically another bay, you really can only see 2 bays out of 3 in this picture.
