Hi Guys

I’m a new V35 owner and im looking to revamp my sound system, at the moment my in dash CD player is broken and seems to be blocked and I have a standalone unit in the car (was imported like this, some pics below). I’m getting the double din dash conversion and im wanting to know if anyone knows of a head unit that I can link to the screen that is already present to play DVD's and music. At the moment it looks like the stand alone player is attached via RCA cables to the screen like a standard DVD player so I figure all I need to do is get the dash converted and re route the cables with the right head unit and ill have DVD access on the screen. I was looking at a 7inch double din but I don’t want the same screen to appear on both of them, so if anyone knows of one that I can split the screens or just a standalone head unit with RCA out that would work please let me know.

Cheers

Adam

My solution (in progress) is to fit a Carputer.

I would be interested to know how your additional DVD player is hooked into the std screen? Do you still have access to the OEM car computer? ie fuel economy, compass & altitude etc

Yeh its all there still, i press TV and then there is like an AV button on the screen that u can press like on a TV that swaps it to the DVD/CD player. so i think it could be hooked up trough the jap TV tuner, just a long shot but its that or its on a direct connection to the screen. Ill find out when i get the double din conversion done tho, 1st i need to get a head unit to install in its place.

Yep, that's what I think - AUX input at OEM tuner.

If that is the case, ill ether have to replace the OEM tuner or just use the Jap one and have no car TV while im on the F3 speed way going to work :P

No, not quite. Get an Aust TV tuner and connect that to your OEM one. You need the OEM one to remain or your other screen functions won't work.

The new DVD player plugs into the extra AV input on the new TV tuner so you can switch to that for watching movies.

1 screen, 3 functions (fuel economy etc, TV & DVD)

Yeh i just watched a video on how to pull the dash apart on a G35, shit is intense so many things that you have to take off. Any idea where the OEM TV tuner is located? I rely need to just pull it apart and have a good look i think.

I just thought of something else, that weird, you use the CD player control's to control the volume level still nothing is controlled through the screen its all done via the CD player. The CD player is set to AUX when using the stand alone player to :S just gets more confusing lol

The tuner is in the boot. LHS when you lift up the "floor", beside your space saver spare.

The way it works in a typically car is the AUX in on OEM tuner (white jack) has input for video + L & R audio (the current DVD player is plugged into this now). If you are still running the factory stereo, this will control the sound on the AUX input whilst the vision is displayed on the screen.

When you change to an aftermarket head unit you only need to connect the video out to the AUX in port on OEM tuner as the sound will play straight from the head unit to speakers.

Have a quick read thru this http://www.skylinesa...reverse-camera/.

It has pics that will help you follow what's where etc.

There's a few other nice things you can do when you get into it. Lots of fun..

Wait a sec, do you have a "Touchscreen" display???

Do you have to take the dash out to get to the surrounds of the screen (ie can the screen "casing" be taken off without removing the dash)?

No touchscreen, but the "button" is displayed on the screen. You just toggle across to it with the joystick & push/enter & you're there.

I've not got as far as pulling the dash down so much to have accessed the screen surrounds. It's pretty easy to pull everything out & have the whole centre dash (screen/stereo unit) moved back to where the gear lever is so you can see in behind. As for getting into that apart further, I've not been there, yet.

Try searching on G35driver.com if you haven't already. Someone's bound to have done that.

Not a touch screen you can move the highlighted opton around using the little stick and the jap buttons that i cant read, we discoverd how to work the CD player by pressing random buttons, im going to get it convirted next week to an xvani system (or w/e its called) from here ill put the double din kit in with a toy head unit to test, ill let you know how its setup as this could be a cheap option for the rest of the V owners to get TV and DVD working on there OEM screens.
