i believe that they are illegal and are sposed to be removed when the vehichle is complied, unless it is privately imported in which case they leave them in, but they are still illegal. someone please correct me if im wrong though

but my car still has them and i know alot of people on here still have them... the amount of cars running around with hid ect. you mustve been pretty unlucky to get busted for it

Shouldn't be illegal as they are factory

(on GTRs at least... Were they a option on GTTs from Nissan?)

BMWs, mercs, etc have HIDs standard & they are legal.

As for the defect. if you can get someone who isn't a total idiot & realises these are factory items to write you a RWC you should be fine...

HID's are illegal if you do not have headlight washers. This is a defectable offence as dust particles can deflect the light onto the oncoming drivers.

If you want less attention, go for a 5000-6000k (white) range. As the boys in blue do target blue headlights more. :)

Good luck.

Not true.

There are a bunch of legislations in Australia for HID's to be legal when brought out from factory.

Most modern cars meet the legislations (as has been said, washers for the headlight, auto leveling etc). Unfortunately most Jap cars from the 90's don't meet those legislations and hence why they are removed when imported. R34's, S15's, R33 S3 GTR's etc.

To actually get fined for it though is pretty rare.

Haha, and water doesn't deflect/scatter light? I live in Melbourne where it rains all the time so that should be fine anyway... :teehee:

They are supposed to be self levelling to be legal also, mine are one step better having a manual height adjustment on the dash.

It really is a joke the stupid rules Vicroads make up, If I modify my lights it is illegal but if some compliance joint stuffs them up by fitting adapters and halogen crap bulbs with weird scatter patterns its somehow better?

Pretty much whatever said.

It's illegal because it doesn't level the lights by itself.

Yes, although it's factory, but if factory items doesn't comply with Aus rules, they'd have to come out during compliance.

It is also rare to get dicked for them, especially by vic roads lol.

But to answer your question, there are no way to make them legal. That's why compliance converts them to H1 globes.

If you want, for a bit of money, I can reconvert mine back to H1 and lend it to you to clear your defect. Also have a stock airbox too.

No kidding?

Learn something every day...

II work on european cars every day, a lot of them have HIDs & I know some don't have headlight washers.

Obviously illegal but never picked up on...

Lol, it's hard to get pulled over BECAUSE of them... Most of the time that people get done is when they are already pulled over and cops just have nothing else on you, so they pick on your lights lol.
