Given that the regulations for speedometers is +/- 10% accuracy, this is incredible.

Does this reg not also apply to speed cameras and guns themselves aswell? Im sure they also have a degree of inaccuracy.

I've actually heard from some one who works in the nsw gov, that all this is happening because the state is broke

Knock-on effect:- Keneally is actually doing O'Farrell a favour > to take a step towards balancing the budget.

In regard to your relevant comment Owen, O'Farrell is on record to have stated, "I want greater police presence (rather than fine people off the road)"

He wouldn't have to repeal an RTA intention as it hasn't been enacted yet.

funny how the governments in sydney are the ones that are broke and struggling and rather than finding positive ways to re emberse themselves - lets say take a pay cut for instance... on there almost obscene wages. they target the easiest and slyiest way to get "quick" bucks without any real retaliation and the sucess rate is going to be massive, not just for import drivers but all drivers.

what ever happened to the give aussies are fair go slogan?

i think it would be fairly easy to torpedo this by disputing fines through court again and again.

Given that the ADR's give +/- 10% at 40kph you could argue that purely due to aus design standards that it is impossible to regulate your speed to the required standard.

The only way to ensure this (at 60kph) would be to drive a marked 6kph slower than the posted limit, with the possibility (due to above +/- error) of actually going 12 km under the limit (48 kph) and as such possibly obstructing traffic.

Win that argument a few times... job done.

It is a good point, but, how many people fined with doing 61 in a 60 zone are going to opt for the legal option? I would say, and I am sure this is an assumption of the RTA/Government also that the vast majority of these people will simply pay the fines.

i think if it were uncommon to be fined for that kind of offence you'd be right, but given the spike in cameras thats also planned, it would mean that being pinged for 61 would become quite common.

As the point hit is what would really hurt (i dair say the fine for 1 over would be low) i think disputes could go up.

Plus if someone gets one case dismissed based on my above suggestion, i think news would spread and it would start to snow ball.

that said... i can also see them updating the ADR's to make +/- 0% the requirement and then defecting you when you dispute it.

Personally i think its the opposite

If you look at what the execs in big business get paid, and then look at government, i think the problem is that its such a low paying job for the amount of responsibility and stress, that no half intelligent person would actually even attempt it. End result is we get people in power like those we have now, from federal to state to local. No one with any actual background in running a major enterprise (which is what govt is).

unless they change the ADRs surrounding speedo readings and calibrations there is no way if you took a 61kph fine to court would it hold up

Why? Have you read the ADRs?

Everyone has been statng that it's +/-10%... But that's incorrect. The ADRs actually state a speedo has to be +10% accurate, NOT +/-

That meaning, your speedo can show your actual speed, OR upto 10% over your actual speed.

    • If doing that ^, I'd take the idle up valve out and plug the hole in the pump.
    • You can try capping the power steering idle up valve at both ends if it's old. The valve and the intake manifold. That is something that is known to fail in Toyotas with age and it will suck power steering fluid into the intake and burn it in the engine which can cause issues. Then bleed it again with engine off first. Do like 30+ lock to lock turns with the front wheels off the ground.
    • Hi Brent, I am wondering if you ever worked this out? I have upgraded this unit to a newer one and everything works bar the reverse camera, so i really want to know what plugs are what so I can patch the camera through. many thanks in advance Mike

    • Update:   smoke test all pipes no issues cleaned reservoir   fluid put in ( dexron 3 atf)   steering turn side to side and could hearing  gurgling from steering rack which I assumed was air lock, opened one of the steering rack connections and could see loads of air getting pushed out( not sure if you meant to do that / whether it will re introduce air into system)   anyways, loads of side to side sound was gone. Turned car on, pump was slightly ( barely) wining so turned side to side few more turns and fluid level when car on was almost none in resorvoir which I guess is normal if car is one. Turned car of and fluid was gushing out. Almost 200-300cc was pushed out. Repeated engine off side to side followed  by engine on and same result       going mad now. It seems system is either sucking air in whilst on or there is tons of air which I am not giving it enough time to bleed. Thoughts?   would it work like brake caliper if I open steering rack copper pipes and let gravity pull all air out?   or maybe have a restriction somewhere? What is the red circled item, could that be blocked? It i
