ok so i just got an r32 gtr.

arrived on tow truck at night..so havent been able to check out properly yet..but i went to start it..and it idled really rough and kept dying..then realised it was empty on petrol..but the oil gauge light was on and it read zero oil pressure..why would this be? ( i think it was oil gauge..couldnt see,was the small gauge on the right of the tacho)

If the red light is on (we call it the idiot light) and it's reading 0 (range of 0 to 8 kg/cm2), it should be around 6 on initial startup dropping down to 2. The idiot light and the gauge are 2 different systems, if both are lit/reading 0 then get an aftermarket oil pressure gauge (with it's own sender) asap to confirm the oil pump is dead or not (don't even bother starting it until you've confirmed this or not).

Or prior to doing any of that, check how much oil is in it.

Also, I know you aint that stupid but I got to ask. You weren't looking at the oil light and oil pressure gauge after the car had stalled right? Because you know the light will be on and the oil pressure will be zero when the car is simply on ignition and not started.

why would yopu even try to start an unknown condition car without checking ALL FLUIDS first?

retarded if you ask me.

Did you even think it might not have had a drop of oil in it? If it didn't, then I can guarantee it would be f**ked by now.

lol i needed to get it up my drive way..and i was told it was just serviced.it had just came from his mechanic apparnetly..and the car was running when the oil pressure was still reading zero. but the car wouldnt idle as it had no petrol which i didnt know..i turned the car off soon as i realised.

i will check fluids etc. tomorrow and get some damn petrol in it and try it again..apparently it was started yesterday and was all fine.

let you all know tomorrow what happens

uumm, I wouldn't even start my car not knowing if there was oil in it, just to drive it up the driveway.

Simply not worth the risk.

But if it does have oil in it, I'd be waiting until its daylight, and actually thinking about what to check.

i had no reason to doubt there as no oil in it..he told me had brand new oil just put in..and it does lol. i think the battery isnt charged enough now as it wont start at all..it will crank over a few times..sounds like it wants to start but wont. hrmmf

when its cranking over is shows a bit of oil pressure now..but it wont start!! it was showing 13 volts or so on the battery gauge so i dont think it would be the battery?

the guy said it might be a fried ecu from when jump starting the car..my mate put the jumper leads on and it sparked..but this has happen on other cars i have had and nothing bad happened

stupid question here but are you sure the engine was running when you noticed the lack of oil pressure and engine oil check light? from your post it sounds like you noticed it after the engine stalled?

Just because it was running yesterday doesnt meet it will run fine forever :) you should check oil on any car you drive which the history is unknown! especially in a high performance car

check all the fuses

yeah it was running..barely..had no petrol in it so shut it off one i realised.

i cant get it to start..the ecu is showing error codes. its a vi-pec v44 ecu. when my mate went to jump start it i think he touched the terminals together or something and it made some decent sparks. lol could this have damage the ecu or reset everything on the ecu?

if it touched for a split second there shouldnt be any damage but at worst im pretty sure it will just blow a fuse or two.. check them

i dont want sound anymore retarded..but i am a fair noob when it comes to this stuff , where are the fuses located? and how do i check them? lol :)

ecu fault code 43: an temp 1 above error high value

ecu fault code 49: an temp 3 above error high value

ecu fault code 23: an volt 5 bellow error Low value

Temp 1 is coolant temp. So really there is no way for the coolant temp to be higher than the "high value" set from just trying to crank it.

Temp 3 on a RB26 is maybe air temp? (Not sure I have a RB25). Same deal as above.

Volt 5 i'm not sure for a RB26 (RB25 doesn't use it).

So best bet would be to see what Temp 3 and Volt 5 is first. By the sounds of these error codes it sounds like these sensors are no longer working. If for example a sensor fails it will throw up an error code.

This might explain the rough start. Because if the ECU doesn't know the water temperature (Temp 1) it won't know what fuel and timing corrections to make.

Something for you to start on anyway.
