Advice for a nissan newbie please?

Hi all,

well i'm goin to get a car prolly within a few months and i am currently doing my homework on which car i should get. I WAS deadset on getting a supra but changed my mind due to the fact that i can bring myself to spend 30K on a 93-95 car.

currently the choices are :

1) 00/01 s15

2) 98 GTT r34

3) 98 GT r34 (non turbo)

i've checked insurance and it seems that I should be able to afford either one of these.

now i have a couple of q's if you could please help me with (i'ved searched the forums and cant seem to find answers for these) i know i'm a newbie at this but hey, gotta start somewhere right?

1) I know that i should pick the car "i" want but i just want ideas from you guys. If you had a choice between the 3 cars above, which would you pick and why? The GTT obviously the most expensive, but is the cost justified? It seems more "rare" compared to the s15 but that will probably change in a few months though right?

2) What is a good price u've seen for a GTT and a s15? The average goin rate is around 37K and 30K respectively right? Reckon a GTT is 'gettable" in the 32-33k? I know the s15 and GT (non turbo) is.

3) Finally, how negotiable are the dealers? i know they probably give different offers to different people) but anyone here know anyone to get 1-2K off their price? more if i pay in cash?

Id go the S15 simply for the fact that it is Aus delivered and can save you alot of future hassles ie insurance and parts

plus with 18's and lowered on its ass they look too hot.

34 is also a good looker but without those factory bulging gaurds its missing something..........

NA 34 is a waste unless you intend to drop a 26 in it - you will get owned by stock v6 commodores

Dealers are willing to negoiate if you show up with cash in hand- trust me.

I'm a newbie too, but here's my 2c worth

1) What sort of consideration do you have? ie.. is it to be a two seater or a semi 4 seater if the later than I would go the GTT. ie. there is more backseat room in a GTT. Also an R34 looks more meaner.. to me anyway.

2) No comment..

3) You would get a good deal if you go in and found a car you like, put down some conditions (ie. subject to racq/nrma check) and negotiate the price on the spot.. Tho I could be wrong in this regard.

Oh very important.. bring a knowledgable friend along or a friend that has an eye for details! This will always help.

Do you mind if I ask how much you got quoted for insurance? who its with and how old you are?

PS. Get the hairdryer.. get the hairdryer! (hairdryer = turbo incase you dont get it. )

yikes - firstly - get the hell out of the dealerships!!!

You can expect to get a good '98/99 GTT with few mods for low 30's, even high 20's if you are patient, but go with an importer! Dont go through a dealer.

I would obviously pick the GTT - i am a skyline boy at heart and would never get a non turb's or an S15...

go the gtt, if your going to the hassle of getting an import get a turbo charged one. your insurance will have an "import" premium regardless of turbo vs non turbo

the reason the supra is so much is cos its twin turbo or non turbo, a 1995 gtr will see you back about 35k (at least) cos its twin turbo, much like the 1995 supra

I am a skyline lover and faced this possibility when I wanted to change last month (too many skylines coming in to sell mine now )

I would go the S15, its aussie delivered, and although it costs more to insure, and is about as common as the GTT (near me anyways). there are some advantages.

better turbo stock(so you don't have to replace too soon, dissapointing on the GTT, they should have given it a better turbo)

too many bolt ons to choose from for the SR20DET

firstly, to answer your question, i would go a GTT because

1. its a skyline

2. it has an rb turbo engine

3. looks PORN!

4. its a skyline

secondly, you refer to yourself as a newbie at getting cars so i'm wondering if this means you are 18yo or does it mean you havn't bought a car on youre own before? if you're 18 then i would say stay away from all 3 cars mentioned untill you get some experience (no not driver training... years out on the streets)
