im yet to master VDC controlling... i try skid with it, yet sometimes it has a MAD kickback... dam electrics.

i have tried holding vdc in for 10seconds and cycling the key, seems to be successful?

either that or i don't lose control as much therefore it doesn't kick in... it mainly kicks in when you rather "out there"/losing it?

otherwise, use the brake more, it seems to agree with it then.

turning off/on.

xscape... you've never had traction kick in?

maybe something to do with my wheels.

but ive had mine off doing rather quick mountain runs and it still kicks in on occasion... plus ive been sliding it it for it to kick in. and stay on once too.

LSD makes a massive differnce to how it works from what iv read.. the open diff models seem pretty dangerous

A quick press of the VDC button turns traction control OFF from 0-60 kph. The VDC OFF indicator light will turn on.

VDC will automatically switch itself back on (regardless if the VDC OFF light is on) after you reach speeds 60 kph and beyond.

Pressing the VDC button for 3 or more seconds will switch it off completely (I usually count to 8 just to make sure).

The VDC OFF indicator light will turn on. I have taken the car on the track with this setting.

Pressing the VDC button for more than 10 seconds will turn the VDC OFF indicator LIGHT OFF and it will remain OFF (you can't turn it back on just by pressing the VDC button again where in the other settings you can) until you turn the car Off then On again. I dont know what this setting does but I have tried launching the car hard on this setting and the traction control kicked in so I dont know it's purpose.

  • 6 months later...

Hey guys i had a VDC issue last night when doing some spireted driving on a sweeping right hand corner very long corner also going up hill, i had the car at the point where the traction control had just kicked in and the slip light was flicking on and off, and then half way through the corner the VDC turned its self off all togeather, the VDC off light came on and the slip light stayed on, i didnt hit the button at all and i couldnt turn it back on untill i turned the car off and back on and it turned its self back on at that point also. Is this a normal cut off for the V or should i have it looked at as i dont want it to turn off on me when i need it.

P.S i dont drive like a wanker ether my car is making a noise when turning left was trying to get it to do it for a mechanical friend to get his opinion on what it was.

  • 3 weeks later...

I learnt something interesting about the VDC the other day (you guys may already know of this...) I had a wheel alignment and they guys adjusted the toe so that the steering wheel was straightened (it had been a little off since i'd got the car). My VDC had never given me any drama before, I'd even driven it on the track and if I wasn't pushing super super hard, it wouldn't kick in anywhere, even with it still switched on.

But after the wheel alignment, it was kicking in ALOT even under normal driving. It was actually making it dangerous as it would start braking wheels when it really shouldn't have been.

After alot of research I finally found somewhere that mentioned you have to take the car into Nissan and get them to do some precedure that tells the computer where 'straight ahead' is again. I did this and it is now much better. Still not quite as lenient as it was before, but a huge improvement as now it only kicks in under quite spirited driving.

Just thought I'd add this in here as it may help some people with VDC issues similar to what I experienced after the wheel alignment.

And the really annoying part is it must be done by Nissan. Where as the same adjustment in the J31 Maxima can be done without Consult, using a series of switch presses and key turns.

I am about to get a wheel alignment done on mine after replacing the compression rod bushings, hopefully I won't need to go to Nissan and pay them $35 to plug in a consult unit and press 'reset' in the right spot..

    • Don't use that manifold. Please don't use that manifold. Sunk cost fallacy is not worth the later pain. None of these will be relevant to the change that will come from the different turbo and manifold. As in, the effect of the exhaust will be nil, regardless of what else is changed. And all the cam and fuel system stuff is not changing either way, so has no effect. The turbo and manifold (and to a small extent the wastegate)....big change.
    • Just wanted to say thank you for your input   my man (lead mechanic by trade) and I have done a heap of work as you can imagine just to make the hot side work with the dump pipe, stupid massive intake on turbo, trying to get the waste gate on was not fun.  I’m kinda getting to the point where I don’t know if I try and make this work and not throw all this cash and time away or do I scrap the lot and start again? the Apexi I’ve got was tuned for a few slight differences:   Tomei pon cams (mine are stock neo) Turbo smart 38mm external waste gate (mines 45mm replumbed) with stainless screamer pipe  3inch turbo back exhaust with high flow cat Sard 800cc top feed injectors Sard adjustable fuel pressure reg
    • Out here E90s are the cheapest way into a sporty-ish car because everyone knows just how expensive the repairs can get. 8-10k USD for an automatic 335i.
    • Noted. Have noticed BMW are more 'high maintenance' for sure. They've attracted my attention as I think the used car prices seem reasonable vs other options, and the extra quality overall vs a commodore / camry / corolla or similar of the same vintage is appealing, especially the interior, and they are more on the sporty side whereas the others mentioned can be more cruising or economical A-to-B only.
    • Haha yeah I know, this is SAU after all, why are we talking about BMW's of all things!? I hear you on the 'don't have to worry about it' side of things. Having been fortunate enough to be have been able to buy a brand new motorbike or two...never really enjoyed them as much as I'd have liked as you worry so much about where you park it, will it get scratched, stolen, attempted theft, knocked over, etc...and yes dirty. Older less valuable bikes you can just go where you want and park it wherever and not really worry that much in comparison. And who cares if it gets dirty! Never owned a V8, and have had my eyes on VE / VF commodores for years but with their prices climbing so high, the M3 has come into focus more as prices are much closer than I've ever seen...is it a potential contender now?...of course need to factor in the S65 'maintenance' especially and like you said general M car 'tax'. One can dream anyway. But more on the reality front - did read the whole 330i thread as well and was a great read too, both threads enlightening as I've never even driven one of these cars! I do recall 330i didn't seem to have the same amount of issues for almost the same car (turbos and related differences notwithstanding)...perhaps down to getting it earlier in it's life so looked after better than the 335i? Perhaps so as your 130i has been good and quite similar, so finding a car that's been looked after well is the especially-crucial-BMW-first-step.
