i was originally going to drift in my 84 scorpion just for practice, while i spent a few years going through uni and getting enough money to eventually get a new car, but a truck had other plans...

anyway, i just want a skyline cos they have been my favourite car since the second fast and furious, mostly when i started paying attention to cars. although their age has made me think that maybe something else would be better, brian and his skylines just keep pulling me back :P

Haha ben bro your so innocent. Brings me back to the days of not knowing much but having the passion something chronic!

Little bit of advice...don't post any questions on the SAU (all states can see your posts here) forums. Stick to the WA section or use the search tool (i prefer google tbh). You will get your ass handed to you by eastern states nazis otherwise.

Trust me!

Ben if your serious about drifting and such i have 2 pretty good cars you could start with, 1 is an R33 highly modded. just needs abit of suspension work and probably a smaller turbine.

On the other hand sorry for the comment, everyone starts somewhere, some are brought up with it and some arent.

*le-sigh*

fiiine but point is you will want to rip out the original suspension and replace it with coilovers - which 11/10 they are low and hard :)

can we hug now?

Only if you supply more old school style cars (z are my fav)

Get the car you like and that is good to drive everyday (hint dont by a stripped/track only car) i say this for your first one. Get into them enjoy learn and have fun. I got my first r32 when i was 19 and still had them up untill about 1 month ago (27 now) and will get another in the future.

you dont have to spend mega dollars on it to have fun and i would advise getting a stock car (motor wise) as it will be less of a pain. trus me i drove my stripped, no air con or heater, loud r32 around for 18 months as a daily (had no other choice) and i started to resent the car. not fun at all.

thanks to everyone who keeps posting.

@black_csr,

i was considering a silvia, but all the older ones ive seen have been for similar prices as skylines, and the newer ones are just too expensive..

@boss-zilla,

i was just going to buy something that was pretty much stock, if only with a few extra mods on it, that i could mess about with myself.. i just like doing stuff myself, and learning more about things.. however i hated every single day i spent at school...

@theboshow,

im not really looking for something too highly modified. ive heard that a really well done up 33 can reach like 400hp, and thats kinda overkill for what im after at the moment, however i will give you a call if i dont find anything i like in the next few weeks..

  • 2 months later...

i'd suggest getting a piece of shit corolla .. ke70. or perhaps a r31 skyline as a car to learn to drift in .. you're going to crash it, so try not to do it to something nice :P

Mmmm ke70

I have a slight thing for KE rollas - how dare you call it a POS tongue.gif

wait just noticed your thing says you have one! Lucky man

I tried to find a nice KE rolla in WA for a good price as my lil bunkie to get some hands on experience mechanically (the theory on using a cheap shoddy car to learn stuff on since im likely to screw it up lol)

I ended up with a 91 sexcel ...

But yeah I agree with you start with something inexpensive to learn how to race in

but not a ke70 rolla ... their hard enough to find! If you crash one you're ruining my chances of finding a nice one in perth someday in the future once i get rid of the sexcel rant.gif

It took quite awhile for me to find one that was reasonably priced .. i should have been more specific when it called it a POS.

"MY" Ke70 is a POS :P

They have so much potential though .. unfortunately i probably wont throw any money at mine. Damn GTR :P

I love the looks of all the old muscley looking cars haha

Really want to restore one (my skylines n/a so why throw money at it LOL) someday .. the sexcels a experiment and a cheap car to last me until I got enough money to restore and once I've done some courses on the interior trimming restoration and painting cars or something

Classic Celicas are another nice one too their probably my favourite japanese one .. or the old datsun 260Z wub.gif

i love Classic muscle - but too expensive to work on hahah

Hey Ben

I'm heading up to drift prac tomorrow night and if you are keen to come along I can give you a lift as long as you can get to Whitfords or chip in a bit of fuel because Bedfordale is a ridiculous drive from my house.

Everyone up there is really friendly and providing there is a decent turn out and most people cars don't decide to shit themselves then everyone would probably be happy to have a chat to you.

If you are keen send me a PM and we can go from there.

Oh and start saving the dollars son because motor sport is not cheap

    • And that's a massive problem, because deadshits will deadshit and give you false details. At least in these days of mobile cameraphones, it is trivial to take photos of any ID they are carrying at the same time as the 300 photo extensive documentation of the state of the vehicles that I recommend even for minor incidents. And you get photos of the person's face, any visible tatoos, etc etc, while you're at it. Then you try to avoid mentioning that you're fully capable of making explosives of various power levels and will wreck their shit if you are forced to hunt them down.
    • No, I don't remember the exact reasoning (was 20 years ago!) but the cops didn't end up supplying it to us either. Actually my mother went through a similar thing recently where she was hit when stationary, flustered and didn't get address (she got plate details, name, phone and insurance company, but not address). Person who hit her blocked her number and their insurance company (naturally) would not provide any details. Her insurance company also required her to pay the at fault premium because she did not have the address, cops did not help as it is a minor civil matter (they said their only course was if the other driver had left the scene of the accident without providing any details). She only ended up getting that refunded because they happened to be insured with Suncorp and she was with APIA so same company owners. For some reason the address is critical in insurance companies recovering money from the at fault party
    • If you're driving something like an R32 through to R34, no chance of meeting Euro4. Euro4 came out in 2006, and car manufacturers back then were complaining how hard it would be to meet those regulations. Not a chance a vehicle 10 years earlier is going to be compliant.
    • I presume it would take more than just slapping a big modern catalyst on the exhaust? It's interesting though, looking at the old sales brochures and listings it does not mention anything about emissions. No one cared.
    • Yeh nice, looks like their part of keep it reet? Will have to swing past. I'd much prefer someone actually look at my car and custom make a part, then get a generic part online and hope it works.
