Hi All,

First post here. I have a 2003 v35 which i'm pretty happy with except one thing. The suspension seems to pick up every bump on the road. I realise this is a sports car but some situations such as crossing railway tracks are just shocking. I've been doing some reaserch/searches but can't find what I need. My research shows people seem to lean towards to tokico d-spec shocks and then put them on the softest setting. Has anyone gone down this path? I like the ride height so are there any alternative springs (lighter?) that would help. Any particular combonations that are proven? This is my daily driver so I would like more compliance without totally ruining the handling. Of course I know there will be a trade off. Any suggestions are appreciated,

I've never known the stock suspension to be so hard that it is annoying. Do you have coilovers already?

If you are running stock don't expect coilovers to get you a smoother ride.

Like Mark said, if you have aftermarket coilovers (or wheels) already, the ride will feel harder.

If not, that's how stock suspension goes, I believe.

The V35 is a sports car so don't expect it to ride like a camry. I find the stock suspension setup is spot on. Firm but not too harsh and provides enough feedback from the road. Changing to coilovers won't help in your case as they will only make the ride even harder.

If you are finding the ride too hard your shocks may be stuffed.

Shocks that have leaked; effectively have no damping for part of their stroke, and are travelling uncontrolled until they start damping making them extremely harsh. Or if they are bypassing internally you will have very little bump damping; this also can make them basically bottom out .

The shocks in M35 Stageas are renowned for dying very early, I would bet the same applies for yours. Look into replacement shock options.

Thanks All, Stock Suspension on 18 inch factory wheels. Yes I expected a firm ride but it seems to "crash" into/over manhole covers. I was thinking perhaps worn shocks

or maybe bushes? Replacement shock options is really what I'm after. Recommendations anyone on a reptuable brand?

Hey mate, my company is MCA Suspension. You probably havn't heard of us as we don't advertise. But we build top quality shockabsorbers for motorsport applications and sell across Australia and around the world.

Most of our orders are custom so we are setup to be able to make the suspension feel anyway you like, and we organise the springs for you too. I have made a set for my own V35 coupe so we have designs for that car. Being that we build custom shocks and we use top quality parts, we are a little costly, very labour intensive job. Off the top of my head they would be between 3 to 4 grand. I know it sounds alot, but thats very very cheap for us. But believe me when I say you will be blown away by how good top quality suspension can feel.

We don't normally sell shocks for road cars, but as you are after something that probably doesn't otherwise exist, I thought I'd give you the option. If you are interested you can contact us at [email protected] or me personally at [email protected].

    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.
    • Thanks for taking the time to post that ! If anything changes or happens please do update us.
    • Somehow Vertimass/Oak Ridge National Labs has figured out a catalyst that can convert ethanol into C9-C10 hydrocarbons in basically a single step without ending up with a bunch of ethylene or similar waste products: https://patents.google.com/patent/WO2023224867A1/en I still don't think anything like this will keep us from needing to transition to EVs regardless along with all kinds of other electrification, but things like this will go a long way towards alleviating the problem of how to electrify things like planes. Renewable diesel is seemingly an easier problem as well, Chevron is already running refineries for the stuff and the primary feedstock is tallow and other waste fats from agriculture.
    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise
