Morning everyone :)

I have been looking around on carsales.com.au for R33 GTR's over the last few days. I have checked all states for price differences etc etc.

Now there are only a few for sale in WA and they are $27K+.

In the Eastern States, prices range from the high teens through to the mid twenties for an R33 GTR, Series 1/2/3, low & high km, molested or not.

Now, I've never owned a GTR, however I have done a lot of reading about the mechanical components and am no stranger to the problems that can occur with the RB26 motors etc.

I'm just after some advice as to whether i would be better off spending $26-$27K in WA for a GTR that is already here and registered etc or whether i should go interstate? I've never brought a vehicle interstate so I would be extremely careful.

THIS R33 GTR is in Perth and has been for sale for the last ~14months. I looked at the car and drive it this time last year; the body work is immaculate, it drives very smoothly and the engine does not make any unusual noises. Oil pressure seems to be fine. Modifications on this 96 R33 are limited to a cat-back exhaust, intake, aftermarket coilpacks and x-drilled rotors. The guy that owns it is in his mid-late 50's; he told he purchased the GTR from a friend in SA and has never experienced any major issues with the vehicle. In the comments, the owner advises a new tailshaft center bearing assembly has been installed. Why would this have been done (from driving the car hard, general wear & tear??). Not sure why it has not sold as of yet? If I were to consider buying it, I would put the vehicle on hoist to check it out. Would it be worth getting a compression test done on the motor?

THIS R33 GTR is at a dealer in Victoria. Comments say just imported with 76,000kms. Now it's only $22K. Would it be worth taking the risk, flying over the Vic for the day, seeing the car and buying it/trucking it to WA?

Thank you in advance for any information/advice offered.

Cheers,

Jace.

WA car: As this is a vspec (check the vins to confirm this) this would account for the some of the price difference. An engine compression test is a must. I would also get a paint thickness test done to check for accident history and to ensure it is an orginal midnight purple (also attracts a slight premium).

Vic car: I would be flying over to look at this or at the very least getting an idependent mechanic to look it over. Again compression test, paint thickness test and vins check are a must.

Both cars have nismo aftermarket dashes, so the advertised km's are probally dodgey. I would be looking for edvidence of the 100,000km service (e.g. timing belt) on both cars - if not, get it done asap on purchase. The wa car has been in australia a while, so recent service history is documented which is also a bonus.

It will cost ~$1000+ to transport the car over to perth, but will be pretty easy (no pits required by memory) and cheap to get the rego changed over.

IMHO i would be leaning towards the WA car, just for convinience. However, both cars look good, but i would be pricing the actually cost of buying the interstate car (e.g. transport, flight, mechanics, rego etc) before making a deceision.

Yes, I understand being a v-spec and midnight purple does attract a slight premium. I am aware it has an aftermarket Nismo dash, however the condition of the car does suit the KM. I mean, the car is in excellent condition and the owner seems as though he really takes good care of it. The Perth gtr has been in WA for almost 4 years (i found out through my work :P). I will get the VIN number of the perth gtr (shown in carsales pics) and ask in the VINS-Fasted thread. When i went over the car ~12months ago, I could not find any evidence what so ever of an accident.

I have a mechanic who would be more than happy to spend an hour or two going over the car with a fine tooth comb. Roughly how much does a compression test cost? If I buy the GTR in Perth, I won't be modifying it at all (other than what is already done), and it will only be a weekend car with the occasional drive to work.

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated!

If your feeling handy: Analogue Compression tester at supercheap auto =~$50 bucks. There are instructions somewhere on this forum on how to do the test.

Otherwise, when your mechanic looks over the car, request a compression test - should take ~15-30mins. Should only cost the labour time.

When Rohan advertised his LM, he was using that as a base comparison in price for sale.

Back then it had 106 or 108ish kms on it. (Can't remember if stock dash or not. PM gersfan)

When i checked it out last year it had the Nismo dash then.

Maybe he is advertising it as just the kms on the Nismo dash?

Mmmm will PM Gersfan.

Cheers James

Ok no worries. Will look into it.

My mechanic won't charge me though :P lol

Honestly, I'm looking for something around the $20-$22K mark.

I would prefer one with just an exhaust and intake - no major mods (even the standard wheels and suspension). But I'm really after one with a flawless body and this MNP one in Perth has that.

Will keep searching around, I have plenty of time :)

What about this one?

http://www.skylinesa...r33-gtr-v-spec/

I checked it out when I was in the market for a GTR, but decided in the end I wanted an R32. Really genuine guy. The car was pretty BONE stock when he got it IIRC. Not even catback exhaust. Here's the thread he made when he first bought it.

Might be what you're after?

Edit: Just read your post in his for sale thread hohohorolleyes.gif
