Just getting ready to start planning the installation of my surge tank with a single 044 and have seen some people run a fuel filter in between the surge and fuel pump and wondering is it necessary to do this or what the purpose is since you still have a fuel filter in the engine bay ?

Also in regards to the standard barb fittings that the standard fuel tank has are there speedflow fittings that are 90degree that fit onto those barb fittings so you can stick your new hoses onto?

And the final question is how do some of you guys run your hosing this is for a r33 with tank in the boot by the way. Do you the feed and return from engine underneath the car and stright into your surge tank from a new hole or do you just make a hole in the standard fuel tank cover and run all the liines from there down to where ever you surge tank is in the boot?

I've never run an inline filter, 10,000km/s without a problem.

walbro pump as a lift to the surge/bosch.

My tank cover just has a bit more cut our of it really. Uses the factory return line with just added hose to get it to the surge instead of the stock cradle

Aparently the teflon braid is not meant to but some people have said yes and no, guess ti depends on the car and where exactly the lines are run. Im not to concerned about the smell since e85 doesnt sell to bad and I dont expect to be overly bad since it is in the boot and not a hatch like say a 180sx or something.

You can run the braided rubber line straight onto the standard sender barbs no dramas. Maybe just put some tape around the end to prevent it fraying alot.

The teflon braid eliminated the fuel smell for me in my car. I had rubber braided before hand. Geez the line and fittings are pretty pricey though!

As above, just clamp it onto the barb and put something around the braid to stop it fraying. My brothers car has an inline filter but he runs two external pumps, one internal. Then again it doesn't matter. The shit the filter filters is shit from when you fill up at the pump and if your servo is serving dirty fuel well....

Yeah got some prices from speed flow today for fittings and hoses 9.90 for normal rubber ones and 37 for teflon braid then you got the fittings to worry about. I think Im going to try with the rubber hoses and see how it goes. By the way are the standard fuel lines 3/8 or 5/16 Ive forgoten since the last time I checked?

the main reason you dont need one is most intank pumps have a small filter in their pickup end anyway, to stop any crap getting into the pump itself

myne used to pick up crap all the time and get blocked after a while, stopped pumping, was a pita to diagnose

There is a plastic pre filter you can buy and from memory its a Volvo part . It uses large barbs something like 13 or 14mm and you can fit 1/2" fuel hose over them easily enough .

If you look closely enough you can see a fine mesh sac inside these filters and they give me the impression of being more a strainer than a filter .

Anyhow they would catch any crunchy bits before they got into the rollers of your main pump which I don't think you'd easily strip and fix .

Years ago I had an FJ20ET engine in a Bluebird and it had a Carter pump filling a swirl pot and one of those strainers between the pot and its Bosch 975 KJetronic pump .

Never had an issue but the strainer was piece of mind .
