Word on the street is Mark is running 2 seconds faster than the GT AUTO car - Awesome effort

Apparently had some oil on the manifold and caught fire. Problem is officials sprayed foam all over it to put out which is a pain cause that stuff is messy. I don't have any more details yet why oil was there or what happened. They are trying to clean it off for the next session so nothing major.

Congrats to Mark and Mercury for the sub 1.35 time. Anything quicker is a bonus.

Cheers

Marty

UPDATE - GT Auto R35 wasn't an oil fire. It was the Fuel Pressure Gauge failed and leaked fuel on the manifold which caught on fire. GT Auto are working hard to clean all the foam up and it will be back out tomorrow as there is no other damage.

Mark / Mercury R35 apparently has had a gearbox problem and loaded on a trailer already. Maybe someone can let us know if they are taking it to a workshop somewhere for repair?

Cheers

Yes, apparently they are attempting repair tonight.

i see no claws, it begins again tomorrow when both cars belt around the track again, dont forget neither car has had substantual testing so issues are bound to arise with both cars, They have both done very well to make it to Eastern Creek and post fast times. Bring on tomorrow

Also R35's are 1st and 2nd in the clubsprint class ( standardish car on street tyres), ahead of a group of seasoned Evo drivers.

Marek pulled out a 1:42 in the afternoon to grab 1st place.

lol... standardish ??

Mareks car is not far off standard. Mid-pipe, E85 Willall tune (injectors and fuel pump) and some uprated shocks/springs. That's about it. It would be difficult to find many other cars with LESS mods in the class, put it that way.

Anyway this thread is about Marks car, it was great to see it running around out there yesterday and today, well done guys, absolutely fantasic.

was very good to see it in the flesh! no offence intended. but do they make 19's or 20's with rubber available? just looks like the wheels need to be bigger for the bodywork..

No 19 or 20" semis that will do those times, no.

    • Hi All, I'm based in Sydney and want to get hold of 4 stock R34 GTT wheel caps as pictured. Cheers
    • Haha im flattered! Although my poor boat is collecting dust in the garage, as it hasn’t been driven in like 6 months. I forgot the to put the trickle charger on too, so the battery is likely toast now.. I have the frenchys kit. It is fantastic. My only gripe was that the hard lines from the firewall needed some tweaking, however, this was mainly due to my specific turbo and dump combo. The weight and size packaging is much nicer too. I think I have some pics on my build thread somewhere.. my justification for the kit was more “why not” I had gone to the trouble to modernise just about every other part of the car..
    • Actually, ethanol has probably never been cheaper, on a tax free basis, than petrol. With fuel excise being what it is, and only being levied on the hydocarbon component, not the ethanol component, and ethanol for non-drinking purposes not being subject to liquor excise - E85 was cheaper, but not because the combustible liquid itself was particularly cheaper.
    • Maybe? If changing the cat to a higher flowing cat, caused the turbo to spool more quickly, and those areas of the map had not been tuned for the boost level it is now seeing, then yes you would need a re-tune. How dangerous it is running without the updated tune would depend on how far out the tune is with the now higher boost levels, how the engine protection has been setup, is the ECU compensating with a wideband sensor, is the boost control closed loop blah blah million other things... But yeah having said that, I wouldn't be surprised if changing out the cat for a high flow, in say a full 3" exhaust, made no noticeable difference at all.
