I have always wanted a midnight purple R33 GTR and i have now gotten a job that allows me the luxury of getting my (realistic) dream car

ANyway, i spotted this add on carsales

rang the guy, no answer or reply, then i discovered the same car on ebay tonight

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nissan-Skyline-GTR-R33-VSpec-/150588790611?pt=AU_Cars&hash=item230fca9753

msg'd the guy and asked why hte number and address had change, he replied saying that he's just bought it, but he's "decided its not really practical and also wants to get something a bit cheaper"

i reply asking if there is anything wrong with the car to come to the decidion to sell it so quickly, he replies

"its my only car, chews a bit of fuel and a bit annoying in stop/start traffic, not very practical,p if i could keep it as a sunday car i would"

Does this sound dodgy to you? should i steer clear of it?

Im a qualified mechanic, (currently a fitter) so have no dramas in being able to fault find anything with the car, but does anyone know of this car or its history, and obviously him being the new owner, he wont know its history like the old owner does, wont know all the mods, where it was serviced etc

on a side note, the biggest issue i keep coming back to about owning one of these is the maintenance on it and running costs, and the fact that i do 60kms each way to and from work along the M4, so is it a car that ill hate if i do constant driving in as well as dealing with the traffic everyday, am i better off getting a shitter runabout for weekly duties (id rather not)

just on your side note i drive my 33gtr everyday to work on the M5 peak hr traffic in the afternoons and drives like a normal car and thats with an exedy heavy duty clutch, more time i spend in my car the more i love it

thats the reply i want!

im still gonna look at it on sunday, but very sceptical

what sorta power is expected from the setup it has too? nismo injectors, N1 turbos, intercooler, exhaust, Apexi PFC, and is it generally a reliable setup if not pushed too hard

as i drive past eastern creek everyday, i can see myself going there to try the drags and the track at least once, and when funds permit

Maybe he has bought it and then realised how much fuel they go thru....

tried justifying the car to the wife saying he will drive it gently and it will be fine and realised it aint....

If your a mechanic and know your stuff, give it the once over and if everything you see is good, he maybe genuine.....

Do you really want your 'dream' car to have that many kilometers on it? Its 16 years old man. I guess your a mechanic so you would know how many thousands of dollars you need to put on top to fix/overhaul certain areas.

Mate for 22k - spend another 10-12k and buy mine.

Full built motor, suspension, wheels, rebuild transfer case, clutch - the works ;)

Save yourself 10k (it'd cost you over 40-45k to build what i have) and walk away with a 370rwkw track ready/street warrior GTR without leb-spec modifications.

Would also save himself the head f**k of trying to get it right and time wasted doing so.

"If" the bug bites to modify it bites hard!.... as many will know.

Well, just dropped by to japlink and spoke to Adam for a while, he reckons he could import a 33 gtr Inc rego, compliance etc for 16-18grand, that's a series 2, not 3

Id like it to be a midnight purple with 18x10 (or 11"), suspension work, upgraded turbo setup and fuel system, decent driveline, basically all the mods you'd do to a streetable 300kw GTR, but so it still looks stock apart from wheels and a set of ganador mirrors and some carbon highlights

Still checking this local 33 out tomorrow, but might seriously consider importing one instead

you arent gonna be able to import a modified one like that for under $25k at least. consider the fact that the car has to basically be returned to stock to go through compliance so theres all the associated labour costs of removing and then re-installing the mods

plus $18k might just get you a stock series 2
