well as you can see the stereo dims when i turn the headlights on and the dash is not that bright. and my Od has no lite at all so of corse my question is what do i do? the lights dont flicker if i use turn signals or go from hig to low beam so im just at a loss. is it normal for this to happen?

Headunit lights are generally supposed to dim when you turn your headlights on.

When you install a headunit you typically hook up it's "illumination" wire - this is what signals the headunit you have turned your headlights on - so that it can dim. You could disconnect the illumination wire if you do not like it - or there may be settings in the headunit to ignore it.

With regards your odometer light - this should be on, headlights on or not. Probably means the bulb has blown. Pull the cluster out, pull the globe out and take it down to repco, autobarn or something and get a matching bulb.

i have never seen the headunit dim on a car when the lites where on but then again most ars i have ben in where old beaters with aftermarket stereos any way so idk. the whole cluster is dim to me so maybe i should upgrade to the led kit that every one loves red sounds nice.
