Hi guys i recently purchased a set of rs580 turbos and wanted to know what the normal amount of shaft play is? I checked on the forum and garret site which says .56mm is normal and u can move it with fingers, now ive checked the housings and there is no contact on there and with as much pressure as i can apply by hand the rotor still doesnt touch so what do you guys think?

- They are 1980's bush bearing, they will have more movement.

- If they have been off the car for a while there will be no oil, they will have more movement.

If you are worried, get them rebuild. Would be around 400-500/turbo. Or take them to a specialist and let them have a wiggle.

Side to side is no issue in most cases.

It's in.out (ie, pulling on the wheel) that you need to be concerned about.
