I almost bought one... but as I needed to drive it on the road I was bothered by the safety aspect... if anyone hit you you would be making a trip to the hospital

As soon as I have the space for a toy I'll be seriously considering it again

Once I get a decent shed Im building one...have the plans in the study lol

Track only though

Bris and I stopped to check it out on the way back to the boat this week. It's pretty rough. Bris was keen - but now isn't.

Sounds like it's gone down hill since last time i saw it then , it was half reasonable

Racepace talked some sense into me... I could end up spending just as much as I can get for my R32 GTR on a GTST (with my budget, an R33 GTST, just as Roy suggested).

The common sense discussion had was to spend a little more on my current R32 GTR (caster arms and Hicas lock) and basically tune the car to drive nice on the track and enjoy myself (for now util I break something, or want more power...).

Wise words..

Either way, I'll still keep my eyes open for an R33 GTST.... just in case I find one I can't refuse!

You know....I haven't seen what your plans are? What do you want the car for? Track days? sprints? racing one day? rallies?

If you never intend to race or rally seriously....buy anything. If you are ever going to have to build to rules think really carefully before you start, lots of people make expensive mistakes by not thinking ahead. On the other hand I made an expensive choice by thinking too far ahead :P

Ahhh yeah - probably good to outline that one! I've done some track days and found it extremely addictive and can see it going much further. I plan to 'perfect' my track skills to start with..

That's why I thought to 'plan ahead' before I sink too much cash into the current car. I think I'll try to get some respectable times out of the R32 GTR before I get ahead of myself.

Who knows, I might just be a crap driver!

I have the plans sitting on my desk waiting...

And I figure once the R33 gets bent, it's being stripped out and most parts reused in it... Including the 5.7... :D

180sx mate picked one up for 10k with the s15 motor in it putting out a fair bit of power has coilovers and its light and f**king goes alright.

R32 gtst ;-) im biased tho

Or if ya can sell your kids or wife lotus exige seen one when i was at the gym yesterday the guy said it was 70k i couldnt belive how low it was. 150kw in 800kg beats gtrs all day long

180 or silvia are great options. I thought I'd do something a little different with my FC, but if you buy a race only one FDs are getting pretty cheap too. With a few well planned mods they are quite capable.

Must agree with you. There are a lot of things going for them. There seems to be quite a few good S and R 'starters' out there.

For now I'll be sticking to the R32 GTR and tracking it for a while till either I break it or want to take a different path. I'll still be keeping my eyes open for that 'deal that I can't refuse'.

  • 6 months later...

Soooo, I drove to Sydney this past weekend to pick this up... which will be my track only car.

post-71370-0-57094400-1320629807_thumb.jpg

Purchased if off a fellow SAU'er. He is an honest bloke and was up front about the condition of the car.

Now to start prepping for the track.

.... now to sell my R32 GTR - anyone looking for a clean and well maintained Racepace setup car?

Good choice go the 33 :-)

It took a loooooong time to find the right car. I've missed the track - I avoided tracking the GTR .....

Is it an R32? Details?

Yes, R32.

It's got the adjustable arms (front/rear), CF bonnet, Recaro's, cam gears, etc - but this probably isn't the right place to discuss a car for sale.

If you look on Carsales and search for XPE089 you'll see a full listing of what's done to the car. I've also had the front bar repainted, so the spot lights are not on the car any more!

I'll PM you with my details if you want to discuss further.

    • Very nice - I also have a 92 GTST and hardly see any others around these days
    • When I need something else to edit, I use Movavi. A friend who does video editing on a daily basis recommended me) it's an easy video cutter to use for beginners

    • I think you're really missing the point. The spec is just the minimum spec that the fuel has to meet. The additive packages can, and do, go above that minimum if the fuel brand feels they need/want to. And so you get BP Ultimate or Shell Ultra (or whatever they call it) making promises to clean your engine better than the standard stuff....simply because they do actually put better additive packages in there. They do not waste special sauce on the plebian fuel if they can avoid it. I didn't say "energy density". I just said "density". That's right, the specific gravity (if you want to use a really shit old imperial description for mass per unit volume). The density being higher indicates a number of things, from reduces oxygen content, to increased numbers of double bonds or cyclic components. That then just happens to flow on to the calorific value on a volume basis being correspondingly higher. The calorific value on a mass basis barely changes, because almost all hydrocarbon materials have a very similar CV per kg. But whatever - the end result is that you do get a bit more energy per litre, which helps to offset some of the sting of the massive price bump over 91. I can go you one better than "I used to work at a fuel station". I had uni lecturers who worked at the Pt Stanvac refinery (at the time they were lecturing, as industry specialist lecturers) who were quite candid about the business. And granted, that was 30+ years ago, and you might note that I have stated above that I think the industry has since collected together near the bottom (quite like ISPs, when you think about it). Oh, did I mention that I am quite literally a combustion engineer? I'm designing (well, actually, trying to avoid designing and trying to make the junior engineer do it) a heavy fuel oil firing system for a cement plant in fricking Iraq, this week. Last week it was natural gas fired this-that. The week before it was LPG fired anode furnaces for a copper smelter (well, the burners for them, not the actual furnaces, which are just big dumb steel). I'm kinda all over fuels.
    • Well my freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo went bang 1000kms in, completely fried big end bearing in cylinder 1 so bad my engine seized. No knocking or oil pressure issue prior to this happening, all happened within less than a second. Had Nitto oil pump, 8L baffled sump, head drain, oil restrictors, the lot put in to prevent me spinning a bearing like i did to need the rebuild. Mechanic that looked after the works has no idea what caused it. Reckoned it may have been bearing clearance wrong in cylinder 1 we have no idea. Machinist who did the work reckoned it was something on the mechanic. Anyway thats between them, i had no part in it, just paid the money Curiosity question, does the oil system on RB’s go sump > oil pump > filter > around engine? If so, if you had a leak on an oil filter relocation plate, say sump > oil pump > filter > LEAK > around engine would this cause a low oil pressure reading if the sensors was before the filter?   TIA
