Hey Guys,

BACKGROUND:

Girl own's a 2006 Ford Focus and had her battery replaced and now has no stereo due to needing a security code (like someone would steal it :P) - we have rung Ford and they have given us the incorrect number and said it must have been logged incorrect by the sales agent.

She is the second owner and does not have the log book.

Ford want to charge us to remove the head unit to get the serial number so they MIGHT be able to get the code.

RANT:

I dont think we should have to pay for them maybe getting us the code for something they did wrong when selling the car.

QUESTION:

how can i find out the origonal dealer that sold the car (Ford will not/ can not give me this info - due to privacy) so that i can go back to them to get the code free of charge?

If someone works at DPI would they have the info and how could i get it?

Any advice would be appreciated - except to replace it with after market :P

peter..the one i steamcleaned?? tell her to sell it n get a soarer farken! haha

syfon works and dept of transport ... but he actually does WORK - like all us gubberment emproyees.

just ring and ask. and if a young kid named jason picks up.

tell him rowans gonna cut off his hands - he'll know what i'm talking about ;)

but seriously. that ifo should be in the glovebox. in the vinyl folder. on the yellow piece of paper that says where the car was bought from

while we're on the subject - fvcking new cars. seriously.

once did a detail on a hyundai tuscon farken. dumb owner left keys in the glove box. thinking she was doing me a favour. i went to go get some thing, wind blew doors shut, hyundai has a feature which "self locks" if the key fob is in the car with the doors open...

keys got locked in the car - because of a "safety feature"

...new cars farken.

another story. was doing a lexus IS250 the other week. finished up. owner calls me up an hour later accusing me of ruining her car saying i have to pay for it thru lexus cos her car isn't starting etc etc

i go back to her house - luckily not far from mine... (this time i took the soarer so i dont look like a van driving idiot) she's treating me like an idiot for wrecking her new lexus. that she's owned for a few weeks. i said i bet it's you... i tell her to give me the keys.

started it straight away. i look up at her and say "were you putting your foot on the brake as you starrted it?"

she goes. no?

i said - lexus make you keep your foot on the brake cos of the push button start.

then there's this other car i once did a job on that they replaced the battery and after that the stereo wouldn't wo - -..

Well there's your problem... obviously

Yes i do work for the dept of transport but its the same with us. due to privacy regulations i cant give out that info, but maybe the deal can be sweetened? haha just joking

I have access to it, but if i get caught giving out that info, it's an instant dismissal.

Rowan - you won't cut your hands off brah.

On the other hand, oh shiiii

nuclear_bomb_oil_spill.jpg

my father runs seaveiw ford in clarkson ill have a chat to him and see what he can do

If you could would be awesome... let me know and i will PM you all the details of the car or will even take a drive to visit him...

Mr EPS, yeah it is the car you cleaned for us, thanks for the long story was interesting but no toyota for her :P

Syfon, i do understand the privacy information etc and dont want you to get in trouble so thanks anyway :)

to the others i know it should be in the book the issue is she did not get the log book with the car and her olds did not check it was there :S

Thank you all for the help

The girl does not want a new one as it wont look good due to fit...

Plus it is the principle that i should not have to pay for something cause Ford did not enter the details correctly into their system...

I never take shit and will never pay for someone elses mistakes... i will find the origonal dealer and make them remove and find the code for free :)

    • Yeah I'm keeping an eye on it and might take it out as a once off if this doesn't fully charge. I did some research that said it's normal in equalisation charging. Voltage I thought was 20+ (faulty battery in multimeter) but now its on 15.9v, the max it should go to is 16.2v as per the manual. I'll provide an update once hopefully it's actually fully charged and in float mode. Waiting for it to go to 16.2v and not higher and see what happens. What I suspect has happened is that even though it's not an old battery, I did leave the car turned off for almost 4 weeks at one point then left it off for another 2 weeks which might have erroded the battery and is taking a long time to do this equlisation charge.
    • I wouldn't be using the seats a lot since it's on Historic rego and will not be driven a lot, however I also don't want to fork out 3k for something that won't last. Havent looked at BRZ seats, aiming for something of the same era I did speak to him on the phone once, and I do see your point haha. How many kms do you think you drove before they started wearing out? Just had a look at yours, certainly looking for a reclinable version. The Brides don't look too bad! I would still like to sit in one just to make sure it's what I'm after.    Thanks for the replies fellas.
    • I bought my Bride reps from Crank Motorsport. He is, um, a trifle disorganised. I would have to look back at the e-mails to make sure I got it right, but I think he sent me normal fabric ones when I ordered the "Alcantara" ones. So he had to pay for shipping 3x and I'm sure that f**ked him off big time. And asking technical questions where nuanced English is required is a no go. It's simple English only. And....should I have bought the Alcantara ones? Well, as it turns out, they are great, feel great, etc, but the fabris wore through on the point of the waist bolster in <2 years. Must have caught a rip from a rivet on jeans or shorts, or something like that. So now I have to patch it somehow. A bit shit. My fault, ultimately, because it is Chinesium Faux Alcantara, not the real thing, and it turns ot that it has the tear resistance of a soggy tissue. But the seats and the reails are great. I probably should have gotten the R34 style ones, and now that they price is up in that ridiculous sort of number, I could have sold them for a profit!
    • Another recco is to just let it rest for a while and go back and reconnect later.
    • keep an extinguisher nearby? or even better, take it out of the car to charge?
