We are need to be on our best behaviour when driving our imports around guys. Front page of The Chronicle this morning.

http://www.thechronicle.com.au/story/2012/07/02/driver-lifts-mate-out-after-car-slams-tree/

If speed is deemed the cause of the accident i have a funny feeling that the police will be trying to crack down on us even harder.

I was almost could of been pulled over on Friday night on my way home from a friends place after a house warming. Lucky I was almost at home and they must or thought I turned off onto another street near home or they were sent out on a real call but as soon as they saw my tail lights they did a U turn pretty damn quick.

Haha they'd probably try to defect you for having too many turbos :) Lucky you pulled up in time lol....not that you have anything to worry about eh?

Yeh well as far as driving goes we have nothing to worry about. We drive around like grannies lol...and I have people that will vouch for me and my slowness haha! Maybe I should change my name on here to Captain Slow :P

As always it's a select few that ruin it for us all. In my area there're a couple fellas that never drive anywhere normally - always flat-footing it. I guess the attitude the fuzz adopt is guilt by association, ie, own a Skyline / JDM import and you're a hoon/terrorist which makes it quite hard for the rest of us who're trying to repair the poor image that ACA has given us lol

Hope the blokes recover but tbh the article wasn't too bad in terms of import hate. Usually they are littered with buzz words such as "high powered" "highly modified" and the like. It seemed to stick to the raw facts and not have any assumptions that speed and/or recklessness was involved given the make of the vehicle, and the fact that non-turbo cars never crash.....guess you're safe Nick.

If anyone is interested there is a happy laps happening at QR on the 15th (it's a sunday) I will be cruising down to watch (the Vspec's happy laps and drags days are over) but if anyone is keen on cruising down with me, let me know.

Going to do a cruise and a hard park on either the 28th of this month or the 4th of August, I want to do something before I head down to Eastern Creek for WTAC. So which date suits most is the one we will go with.

The cruise will be just to get to know a few of you new guys that are out there and the hard park/ drinks at my place (only for people I have already have met and trust the location of my place, YES I am that paranoid) for me_larr (Nick). I think it's Nikk_666 turn to bring the grog as well

Would you like to do a joint Brisbane/Toowoomba cruise; meet up somewhere in the middle (eg esk) and then drive a local road? We were planning on having one around that time anyway and it'd be nice to meet the Toowoomba blokes again.

edit: sorry, reread your post, that's probably not the kind of cruise you were after. However, would like to do something like that later this year.

Either date is good for me at this point. Really am keen to meet up with the new guys. If we were to do a meet up with the bris guys I am sure we could arrange a meet up around Somerset, do that run and hit up a pub feed for lunch. We can have a drink at my place if needed as I am the king of my castle ;)

^ Wish I could say I'm king of my castle :(

I need to ask permission first to get funds for stuff I want to buy.

I must be doing something wrong!

Chris - Sounds good. I'm up for either date. I can contribute grog too I suppose :P

I don't drink but...

So if we're all taking turns to share in the drinks, slot me in one time and I'll be happy to oblige (only if its at someone's place) ;)

Ok, just to put my input in either date is fine just the regulars ie Tom Chris Clint text me or fb me before hand with updates. But yes, I shall provide a. A bottle of scotch & b. A carton of coronas.

But yes, im in definitely...

Lol...would you do it for a drive in the GTR? :)

Damn if only ma ride was ready...why is it that every time we have happy laps there's something with my car.....and then, when my car is fine sweet F A is happening :P

That's because there is always something wrong with your car or your always doing something to it :yucky:

They still have space dude. Should be able to rock up and pay, eat your brekky and go have fun.

Hope you're a SAU member cos non-member prices are through the roof now....kinda too exxy for me to join happy laps as it stands :(

I think even spectators have to pay(?) so no perving for me...

    • Well, hydraulic lifters will get noisy if they are dirty/fouled in some way, and exactly how that manifests will depend on exactly what schmutz is where. There is a procedure on here somewhere for dismantling and soaking/cleaning them. Replacing them with new is about 50% of the work and about 5% of the money!
    • Thanks for the reply @GTSBoy this is is a hydraulic lifter engine. Yea right i did not realise the lifters were supposed to be compressible while installed. I could push them down but i had to lean almost my while body weight on them.  I have never heard of a lifter/ lifters ticking only at hot idle and getting worse the hotter it gets. I have owned a few jdm cars with noisy lifters. This noise is slightly more subtle, it is more of a sharp gentle metalic tic than the solid and more loud tapping I've heard on lifters. I have used a metal rod, alloy tube, hose and stethoscope and could not find the source of the tick. But it appears to be loudest on the actual engine block behind the exhaust cam gear and next to the oil filter. I had mate (40 year old mechanic) go over it with me and he couldn't find it either..  Could it be a cam seal issue of some sort?  Cheers
    • This seems problematic and unlikely at the same time. Vanilla RB2Xs have hydraulic lifters. They do have "zero" clearance, but only when running with oil pressure inside them. When not running, you should be able to compress them and obtain heaps of clearance. RB26s and Neos have solid lifters. They should have ~0.3mm and ~0.5mm on the inlet and exhaust respectively. If they have zero clearance then bad things are happening. With nothing else being wrong, it would mean that the valves would be held slightly (ever so slightly) open when they are supposed to be closed and it should have all sorts of problems when running, caused by leakage in/out through the valves. Or, zero clearance can indicate severe valve seat recession. None of it is good. Have you used a piece of hose as a stethoscope to try to localise the noise?
    • Sorry for reviving an old post, but I'm having the same hot idle tick issue. Did anyone ever find out what it was?  I have checked/ replaced Injectors Coils checked Lifter clerance (is at zero) Checked Cam lobes Replaced exhaust gasket and studs Would appreciate any advice this is driving me nuts
