Russman's Time Attack Build

  • 2 weeks later...

Great weeks work by ACE Workshop and it's now ready to race.

After all the tuning we've discovered that the intercooler has been a limitation and 'only' pushing around 250rwkw's. Still way more than I'm used to and heaps more torque over the old setup.

It's very drivable for the short amount I've driven it on the street.

Custom clutch pivot bracket by ACE as the original was bending.

You may also notice the wing is now on

Sunday I'm going to sandown for the first outing. Can't wait!!!

All stickered up.

You may notice a sticker on the boot. It's a crossed out GTR badge. I'm sick of getting confused for a GTR. It's understandable now with the GTR front but I used to get it with the GTSt front?! Just to confirm this is NOT a GTR haha. GTR

Thanks guys.

We had our first outing at sandown today. Went really well. The car was pretty much flawless with the new setup. Only issue I had was brake fluid in one session. Quick bleed and I went out again. I did a 1:24.09 which is my new PB. Not bad for a setup that I'm still getting used to and running lower power output still. It shows the build quality and pride that the guys at Ace put into their work  I'm lovin it!

I'm still running second hand RE55's that are at least a year old and I found it hard to trust them in the wet. They came good in the afternoon but there would be more time on newer tyres of course. I'm loving the power delivery and I'm adapting to the changes quick enough. Next weekend I'm hoping to do philip island and test out the wing on the fast corners there.

Thanks to Ace workshop guys and pit crew that helped today :) Good times...

Good to hear the car ran well. Ryan said it seemed to be working ok.

I was running 4 year old RE55s the other week at Winton, I dont think they lose a lot of time provided they have been stored right. The other week when I was at Sandown, where I got kicked off for noise in the first session....I only did two half spirited laps to see if the brakes were bedded and working ok...and I did a 1:25 flat. So obviously the tires still had some pace in them to do that time without really trying.

What speeds were you hitting down the straight? Ryan tells me you were only running about 250rwks, so thats a great time considering you only had 15rwkws more then the RB20 setup and probably more lag.

Real keen to see how you go at PI. Sux that I am not entering. Common sense prevailed with me and going to leave it parked since I am off OS next week doing car stuff. Good luck at PI and keep me posted with sms :)

Yeah I think the main problem is getting heat into the tyres more than the age. I'm going to find it hard with the cold temeratures to generate grip. Might possibly run softs instead of mediums. Not generating heat into a 265 tyres with the weight of my car could mean slow times. More downforce is the key... That's a work in process :)

I don't think we overlayed the dyno graphs but I reckon there isn't much more lag than the old setup. My 20 had low compression coz of the 1.2mm Tomei head gasket so it was laggy until boost came on so there was a fair bit of time waiting for boost even between gear changes. The 25 was nothing like that, always making power. I found the 25 power delivery was amazing. It pulled like a train all the way to redline.

    • Are you guys daily driving your skylines??  Its already pretty cold here in the U.S. already where you dont need the AC now. Its nice fall weather.
    • Oh you already converted to R134a? Interesting. Is there a kit to do that? And i didn't know the evap was under the dash. Prayers up for you bro haha hopefully its something easy to fix. AC systems have always been the hardest thing for me to wrap my head around.
    • The car is a manual. The fuild in there has been replaced too. There was actually milkshake under the radiator cap. In fact, the whole coolant was brown milkshake last year. I drained all the brown liquid out via radiator. Replaced the OEM radiator with a Koyo and Replaced all the coolant hoses under the plenum. I re-filled with fresh green coolant, and now i see brown spots contaminating the coolant again. Its not completely taking over like before though.  I really hope its just left over rust not flushed out properly.
    • I took it back to jem to get the full tune done and again it had its problems which meant it didn’t get finished  this is the dyno sheet on 98 at 22psi the rpm vs speed scale is off (the logs prove this) but gives an idea of what the curve actually looks like  now to the issues of why we couldn’t continue, first the tail shaft center bearing was completely flogged out second it was getting a voltage drop as it came onto boost and would go from 14v to 12.5  third it has “noise” on the 5v sensors and gives errors on the dbw on cold start  he also said 22psi is the wastegate pressure (it has 14psi gates) and would like the base pressure to be lower particularly on 98
