Hi guys

I was hoping if someone could help me with a bit o f a problem with the car I'm having at the moment. The car has lately in the past few weeks every now and then, when I try to turn the engine on it hesitates to fire.

It seems to turn but dosnt actually starts up. I monitor the volt sensor on the pfc controller and it sits at 12v and when starting drops to around 8-8.8volts. Sometimes it will almost start and I notice the volts jump up to 10v, but majority of the time drops back down to 7-8v and dosnt start. Is this normal? I've never had this issue before ad only recently popped up after i switched back to a 98tune from e85. I've got a surge tank with twin 044 pumps.

I've tried leaving the engine sit for 30min,

I've tried pumping the fuel pumps through

But nothing.

Sitting at a servo atm and already 10min late for work. Any help much appreciated

Sounds like the battery is stuffed, the voltage should never drop that low. Unless the starter is shorting out? Check the battery terminals are clean and not cracked and that all the heavy gauge wiring looks good.

Just an update guys,

We had the battery as well as the cabling all checked and they are in good condition. My local auto elect mentioned that its got to do with the starter motor more then anything. He seems to believe its coming from a possibly faulty solenoid of some sort. Wasnt able to hang on the phone for a explanation so i was hoping if someone can shed some light on this while im at work lol.

Cheers

Could be your starter is f**ked drawing to many amps to turn the engine over. Does the engine spin over by hand? You havent snapped the timing belt have you?

At the start you were saying it dropped to 8v when cranking... That would always generally be a battery issue. How did you check the battery?

Thanks for your reply beemae30,

I havnt really done any testing myself, the car was in the shop for some small stuff and i asked to get the battery checked, the Auto elect said it was fine.

It starts up fine now and has been for a while. Its just sometimes in a blue moon that the car wont start with the above issues. However even though it starts now, it still hesitates. Sometimes only for a second and sometimes as long as 3-4seconds.

The car will crank, almost to the point where its about to fire up. But it dosnt and the cranking noise will sort of jump around a bit and eventually start.

Sometimes it starts instantly and perfectly, other times it dosnt usually after a god drive. But i dont know if thats just a coincidence.
