Well went for a drive yesterday and pulled up at a friends place and noticed coolant comming from underneath the car. Wasnt a major leak so just babied it home (only a few kms). This morning i found the coolant was comming from the back of the motor, after a quick evaluation, I had to take the plenum off to get to it. So a few hours later and looking like I have been attacked by a feral cat I found the hose. Now to my suprised, this hose had the dodgiest fix ever already. The hose was covered in silicon and had a bit of rubber cable tied around it to try and make a seal. I was absolutely dumbfounded at the sheer stupidity that someone has gone to, to try and mend this hose. There is no way to access the hose without taking the plenum off, so someone had prviously taken the plenum off and instead of replacing a $3 part had just siliconed it. I have attached pictures below of the hose....needless to say I will be replacing the hose, and putting it all back together as soon as I can get a plenum gasket tomorrow.

Mate sh!t like this is more common then most people think.

I recently pulled out my engine and was shocked to find that one of the engine mounts didnt have a nut on the stud. How frigan hard is it to put a nut on a stud!

also found that the inlet cam had rust on the lobes after pulling the head off

I pulled off my front bumper the other day to find that the reinforcement bar behind the bumper wasnt even bolted on, Find two bolts NOT HARD!

If you want a job done properly ya have to do it ya self

I took my 2004 mazda into a mazda dealership for a full service, I noticed a few drops of coolant like you, they didnt put the coolant bung back in properly and my radiator almost run dry within a couple of weeks,

I took my 2004 honda into honda dealership for full service didnt change my wiper blades ffs they were rooted and almost falling off..

So now I trust 2 people with my cars, msyelf and 1 very good private mechanic who tackles the bigger jobs I cant handle and even with him I source my own parts.

)

Yep same here i do most of my own work myself (i know its done right then) or there is a few select people who i will trust and even then i am there whilst they do the work :).

You learn as you get older not to trust too many garages....

f**k sakes! they forgot to chop the tails off the cable ties!

THat looks like a quick and dodgy fix done with the plenum and all else in situ.

I can sympathise - sometimes I look at my engine bay and think CBF.

My engine bay has it's fair share of zipties.

Doesnt surprise me after working at a mechanic that was quite well respected and I was shocked how dodgy it was. Also took my head off recently found 1 head bolt missing and only 3 cylinders had gasket on the exhust manifold lol must of lost the 2nd half of it. 1 rule never trust anyone to do anything you always hear people say ohh no mines alright mines good but they would be surpised.

my work ute is through a fleet company so we have to let the peanuts at ford or nissan do repairs.

1- had it booked in at ford for a service and told them was all good but needed a new headlight cover. was filthy when i took it in but had worked 14 hrs day before and didnt have time to wash it. well they washed it for me AFTER fitting the headlight cover over the filthy headlight. couldnt believe it when i got there. shiny white and polished. black tyres and a completely brown headlight on LH side.

2- same place next service. told them all belts were worn and sqeaking in the mornings when cold. service was completed but belts not replaced or even adjusted. Rang fleet company and vented and asked if i could carry out the repair. they said no.rang ford and vented and was told to bring back to do belts immediately. by the time i got there (about 3km) it had dropped 1 alternator belt and air con belt. guy says to me " gee mate you shouldnt be driving it round with belts missing"

3- same place few services back. started squealing on boost after going through a wash pad on minesite. rang ford and asked if they could replace exhaust manifold while getting serviced. came back from service with same squeal. went straight back and asked service manager why it wasnt done. he said they found nothing wrong and wasnt needed. went to car park and pulled heat shield off turbo and manifold then dragged him out to look at the 2 inch crack

i have also resorted to writing faults on inside of windscreen in texta as sometimes they say they didnt know about the faults i listed when dropping off

    • Hey all, I'm sorry if this has been discussed before.  I have a 2008 Japanese import V36 coupe with nav but without Bose. I bought one of those AliExpress android screens, which for the most part works really well.  The only thing that doesn't work is the air con controls (well sort of) and the factory reverse camera.  The AC can be controlled fine but it doesn't report the change in temp and mode to the screen, and the volume knob/other audio controls from the panel don't register on the learning app.  I am pretty certain that the problem is the difference in the head unit between base model (Nav but no Bose) 2007-2009 coupes and anything after 2009.  Mine is the one with the blue connector all the way to the right as seen in this forum post:  The reason I think this is there is one wire left over that doesn't fit anywhere on this head unit, or in the factory screen which also uses different connectors to more recent versions.  I've seen the upgrade from OWC, and have sent the guy a message on eBay but no response yet.  I also don't particularly need the whole kit, just *maybe* an adapter for this one cable.  Did anyone else here have the same problem, or have any insight about what I can do to get this working?  I have been in contact with the seller but all they seem to be able to do is ask for more pictures and videos. Minor edit to add:  I have been researching and found a screen on Aliexpress that actually specifies my head unit in the listing, so these things do exist.  I will contact the seller to see if the wiring adapters are interchangeable with other screens.   Thanks in advance!
