Have you got a cold air supply or do you have a pod sucking hot air from the engine bay? According to our local turbo guru you need at least 700cfm to make 300kw so you can scale that up (but good luck getting flow rates for intercoolers - even the big names seem very shy about revealing theirs). Anyway here is a big intercooler for about AU$1000 by the time you add freight:

or a big China one:

I read the title and i thought we'd actually be talking about a "BIG" 500rwkw set-up. Not a set-up that a stock GTR could do with ease.

Sorry dude but ffs - go back to ALL your past threads where countless numbers of us have tried to give you advice now. Yet you've not done one thing anyone has asked.

Once again you are just talking about spending $1800 without even testing anything.

The reason you are not making power we've all been telling for you 12, maybe 18 months now - you don't even know what is wrong

I dont know why everyone thinks they can real off 400rwkw with a 35r on pump even with a 1.06 rear its a stretch - well it is on a proper reading dyno anyway. I would be looking at you exh back pressure before going any further.

Exactly. Once again there has been no problem solving even attempted. No data attained in over 12 months of "issues" with this set-up.

how big is your exhaust? 3inch dump, 4inch body cat, 3.5inch exhaust.

what manifold you using? 6BOOST

i remember you wanting to play with the gt35x turbos. is it s standard 35r you used with a .82 when you made the 430kw? Standard GT35.82

were you running e85 on that? E85 at 26.5psi

any head work? cams? Just HKS 256/264 cams

alright nismoid i hear you loud and clear. i still want some valid inputs in relation to intercooler size for power levels so rather then go off topic ill continue this in the original topic.

cheers

I've got one of the monster Trust coolers for sale if your interested... needs a wash but otherwise in excellent condition

Why did trust stop making these coolers? and how do they compare to the plazmaman stuff? btw very good price

Well think about it this way

A OEM GTR intercooler would be fine for your set-up at the moment to put things into perspective.

You still need to test the cooler pre/post and measure the pressure. If you only see 1-1.5psi drop then it's not the cooler giving you grief.

Lets assume your intake pressure is a constant 15psi from 3000-7000rpm on a WOT dyno run. If the intercooler has a flow issue you will find that the pressure difference from side will increase with rpm - ie there maybe no pressure drop until 4000rpm where it may increase linerly to the rev limit. If you have a 1-2psi drop I wouldnt be to concerned but if the rate at which the pressure accross core starts to increase expotentially then that where you will start to have an issue.

Determining the thermal properties of a core can be done in the same way.

My pick for all out horsepower is process west.

I have used a just jap 100 mil thick cooler 4 the last 4 years and made up to 420 rwkw with no end in sight.

Pressure drop has been too small to even consider so if you want my opinion dont waste the mega dollars others are asking for brand name stuff. Unless you want to go to the upper stratosphere in hp it just isnt worth the coin.

Geeze your really asking for another Ash spray arent you :)

What I did was get a fitting welded to the hot intercooler pipe, then hook up a vacuum hose and a boost guage. Then you can compare before and after the intercooler. I understand you can also get pressure difference testers that have 2 inputs, although I havent seen one of those and not sure how to get them.

can be got on US ebay

I just called race radiators in Dandenong to ask for a quick pressure drop test. They said they only do pressure tests =S

Isnt that the same thing!!?

no it's not.

You need to test @ turbo outlet, and plenum inlet

This tests the entire system properly. Not having time is... well... not good enough :)

Although I understand the process of taping in holes on both sides of the intercooler, I don't have much time to sit down and plug holes, weld ect.

If your prepared to remove the intercooler and drop it in to a shop why cant you remove two sections of the intercooler piping and get some fittings welded on by a shop?? That would be easier for you surely!
