What they do is ask you to send them your paypal email.. Then afterwards they will email you a fake link to "paypal" where you proceed to login but in fact sends them your login info.. BOOM.. they login to your real paypal account.. transfer money and then ride their elephant off into the distance..

You will always tend to get these emails just after you update you ad

So they are just looking at the newest ads that pop up

When I sold my R33 I got atleast 6 of these.

So annoying each time u saw an enquiry email from carsales I got excited and half the tome it turned out to be one of these scammers

Gumtree is worse plus you have to deal with the lowballers offering you half of your asking price

+1.

Trading Post was like this for the past 2 decades. Now the same demographic support has shifted across to Gumtree - with their funny accents.

Gosh and i am about to put both my cars on carsales ..........

Have you thought about asking Todd at JapLink to have your GT-R on consignment there (so long as there's no hidden gremlin)?

You can specify that no-one drives your car unless Adam (Sales Mngr) is in the passenger's seat.

Go through F/S section here too, on SAU.

It's not hard.. Just ignore anyone who wants to pay by paypal.. AFAIC if they don't want to see the car in person and pay in person then they aren't legit

My mate got the same exact thing last week trying to sell his bike. He went to the police to try report it and they said "Sorry we cant see any evidence of fraud or crime" lol morons..

They know it's a scam, but at that point in time they can't prove anything. It's just some anonymous person whom is most probably overseas. It's not even worth following up on.

It's the same story that has minor changes to it

1. They can't contact you other than via e-mail

2. They want to buy the car for someone else without even seeing it

3. They work some bullshit job where they can't call you/use the internet much

4. They want to pay via paypal

5. They want some random "agent" to pick it up

and they do all of the above with barely legible english.

This shit won't ever go away. As said above, if you're ignorant enough to let someone buy a car through paypal without even seeing it, then you're a moron.

Got a new one just this morning, the third one for the kart (in sig).

He was really persistent, sent about 4 emails, with me replying saying cash only on pickup and this looks exactly the same as the other scam emails I got. Though he assured me he was safe and that bad people out there ruin things for the good people like us (lol).

Anyways, I saw one where they sent the seller a fake email from "paypal" saying the money was in waiting, and the seller then had to pay the shipping company, which was probably just the guys personal offshore account.

How much control do they get if they have your paypal account?

they can shift funds over to the paypal account from your credit card, then shift that money into their own account... be careful...never bother replying to these...

    • @soviet_merlin Thanks mate!  Nothing too major but will hold me up for a while. I've got lymphomas to get taken off the back of my neck and the middle of my spine which always conjures scary thoughts!  It sounds worse than it is. Yeah great, conjuring more rabbit hole deepening , just what I need! 🤣
    • I'd argue the F50 kit I got is very good value. For ~2k I got the calipers (refurbed condition), adapters, pads, brake lines, rotors, and top hats. I think you'd be pretty hard to get Evo/GTR/350z brembos + the additional hardware for similar money. Used market for a pair of front calipers alone I've seen tend to run anywhere from $1500-2000 depending on condition.    That said, something like a GTR or 350z brembo is a lot easier to adapt to the Silvia.
    • Is there a significant price difference between the Evo/gtr/350z brembos vs the F50? Looks amazing.
    • I was actually being a tightarse at the time LOL... My OCD is tickling me into running a 2nd 8AN Teflon hose all the way down and removing the 2x OEM hardlines. My other side of my brain is telling me to run 2x hardlines front to back (also acts as a fuel cooler, so win win).
    • As I mentioned in an earlier post, I had some trouble with the Silvia's brakes dragging back in 2023. I managed to sort it out then, but the same problem came back to bite me late last year. Just take a look at the picture – I had a feeling the handbrake was acting up again, and I was right. Anyway, I'd been wanting to upgrade to bigger brakes for a while. Not that the Silvia's brakes were bad, but it was more of a "want" than a "need", you know? It was funny, though – at the time, I couldn't find any Evo Brembos, 350Z Brembos, or GTR Brembos for a decent price (of course, tons of them popped up online after I already bought my kit!). I ended up going with an F50 Brembo kit, which came with adapters, brake lines, 330mm rotors, and top hats. The F50 Brembo caliper was used in a few other cars too, like the FPV. I also decided this was the perfect opportunity to ditch the Silvia's ridiculous rear brakes and that awful handbrake (some of you were definitely right about that!). I picked up some R33 calipers and all the necessary bits – rear drums, backing plates, and new hardware to refurbish the calipers. Of course, it wouldn't be a project without a few hiccups. Turns out the brake master cylinder was playing up and basically (to put it simply) keeping the brakes engaged. I had it overhauled, and after some adjustments, everything was working again. The whole process took a while, as you can imagine. To top it off, the front right wheel bearings were shot and needed replacing too. This is a rare occasion where I'm posting an update while it's all still fresh! These pictures were taken just this afternoon.
