Hi guys,

Just had a car inspected by state roads today, the car came back with a great report besides one thing. The mechanic said that while he had the car (off) up on the jack the rear wheel steering mechanism seemed to have a lot of play in it when he grabbed and moved the rear tires. He said it might be worn bushes etc but I was wondering if it could be because the HICAS was not on as the car was off? Any similar experiences?

Thanks.

HICAS motor will Not Move by hand on an R33 (not sure about 32's as they use a hydraulic system)

I've had mine up and he wouldnt just move the wheels in and out without using considerable force. This could mean that your HICAS ball joints are worn but, Ive had one of mine replaced.

Barring that but, failed motor that is just flopping around? Seen a photo of a friends HICAS motor just destroy the internals

Depends what your into! I have 4 wheel steer on my 33 and I love it!!!! I do alot of driving in the hills with some of the crew and if it wasn't for 4 wheel steer I would be wrapped around a tree by now!!!

So have a think about it before you remove it all together! :)

4 wheel steer is good if you're always going to have grip. the moment you lose traction in the rear it becomes too unpredictable. personally, id give up the 4WS for that extra bit of control if i lose traction. thats when it counts because thats when you NEED control over your car.

i remember going into a low speed power slide and feeling the rear wheels started to wobble. i got a hicas lock bar the next day.

ive driven with hicas for a number of years and just locked it lately.

cornering is much more direct and smooth though it doesnt turn in quite as fast, its hardly noticeable for me

im much happier with it locked already, some people like it some dont.

you can always put it back on if you dont like it locked anyway - its only a bar around 100$ :)
