domino_z
Oh Yeh! Forgot to mention, The Turbo's now boost to 17 PSI in the 342.6 awkw mode! The stock boost was 12 PSI. The new 'mild' setting now only boosts to 10 PSI, yet interestingly still produces the 260 awkw as it did with the exhaust only. This I believe is due to the extra hardware? I didn't think the stock turbo actuators could hold 17psi? I'm looking at changing them out but if I don't have to it's one less thing to worry about Edited April 28, 2011 by domino_z Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/361789-more-mercury-motorsport-magic-or-madness/page/3/#findComment-5784335 Share on other sites

domino_z
is it holding 17 psi right to redline though? or just peak 17psi? kymbo what was the cost for the catted downpipes? im assuming mercury are using aam's catted downpipes any vibrations at certain revs when cold, any droning coming up through the console inside the cabin etc? ive had mixed experiences with high flow cats on my cars, some have worked flawlessly, some havent ive ditched the cats + resonators for a straight through mid-pipe and not sure how much more i can push my luck without running into issues Edited April 29, 2011 by domino_z Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/361789-more-mercury-motorsport-magic-or-madness/page/3/#findComment-5785709 Share on other sites

My r35 uses their downpipes and i think it's great. When i got my downpipe install, i got it install with the y-pipes and exhaust pipes. At first the droning was kinda loud. After driving for a while, the droning sound wasn't that loud anymore, instead it becomes a nicer sound to listen to while driving. Best suggestion is to talk to Trent @ mercury. He should be able to answer all of your question Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/361789-more-mercury-motorsport-magic-or-madness/page/3/#findComment-5786223 Share on other sites

domino_z
thanks for the feedback mate I think I'll wait to hear how loud it is once I put the amuse muffler on with my non-resonated milltek midpipe so whats your next step after breathing mods? did you guys change the turbo inlet pipes too? fireboy
turbo inlet pipes Not sure about that. Trent @ mercury suggested to me to have the intake change and also to get a turbo upgrade. The car should sit around 550whp. Anything greater than 600 requires stronger engine, transmission...etc. For now, I'll be trying to save up for the turbo upgrades. domino_z
itll be a while before i look at high flowing the stock turbos (ie; willall's oem turbo mod) ill do injectors, pumps and bovs/ic piping before then......in a few months, doing things in stages is more fun Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/361789-more-mercury-motorsport-magic-or-madness/page/3/#findComment-5787408 Share on other sites
fireboy
ill do injectors, pumps and bovs/ic piping before then......in a few months from what i've read on the nagtroc, with an update of the full exhaust system (down pipe, mid pipe, exhaust) + fuel injectors (750cc min) + inter cooler + cobb you can reach 600 engine horse power. Not sure how they've tune their car though. doing things in stages is more fun totally agree with this. Gonna enjoy + get use to my current speed before asking for more Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/361789-more-mercury-motorsport-magic-or-madness/page/3/#findComment-5787778 Share on other sites
domino_z
yep i do alot of reading on nagtroc, its a great source to see how people are staging their power mods im still undecided about changing out the intercooler i dont think its necessary on the stock turbos for street use. the problem i see with fitting a much larger cooler over stock is actually having the turbos produce enough psi to fill it and not suffer any pressure drop so id prob fit a larger cooler along with larger turbos Edited May 1, 2011 by domino_z Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/361789-more-mercury-motorsport-magic-or-madness/page/3/#findComment-5787908 Share on other sites

They were part of a whole bunch of stuff, but I think they cost $1,700 for the pair. They look huge when held up against the OEM cats. Not to mention, when you look inside you can see straight through the very large honeycomb core. I seem to recall Trent said, the 3.5" catted down pipes flow about the same or slightly more than 3" non catted down pipes. They are each, at least 1 kg or more lighter than the OEM's. It all adds up! When the car only had the TI Willall mid pipe and cat back system, there was NO drone, only what I would call a very deep and loud tone between 1600 to 2300 RPM. I was concerned the extra mods would make the in cabin noise worse, so I asked Mercury to fully wrap the entire exhaust system in Titanium Tape, right back to just before the split to the rear mufflers. Worked a treat, the in cabin sound with the extra mods is now slightly less than it was before. The external noises are much louder, with a very angry edgy sound right through the rev range. The AAM Competition Air Intake system showed a big jump in power on its own, apparently due to the bigger, colder and smoother air flow to the turbos. And they give a whole new induction sound with the turbos singing a very nice tune laid over a soft deep growl. The turbo boost gauge jumps straight up to 17 PSI as soon as I sink the boot in. The power increase is instant from the get go. You can see in the attached dyno chart the huge fattening out of power and torque from over 2000 RPM. Everything is running far smoother than the factory standard tune. The Cobb unit I purchased included the new transmission tuning programs which has very much changed the transmission response, grip and smoothness. Everything feels more connected, responsive and ready for action. My LC2 VDC launch control is now set to 3,750 RPM instead of the standard 2010 model 3,300 RPM. Not something I use, but nice to know it is there in case of an emergency. You know, traffic lights, good clear road in front and a GT2 RS Porsche or new 599 GTO Ferrari etc, etc, pulled up next to you. I am now considering the following items, for both extra power and durability. Willall Turbo's upgrade enhanced by upgraded Cobb/Mercury Motorsport tune. AMS Intercooler, with the upgraded plumbing. If needed, upgraded fuel injectors. Front mount Willall transmission cooler. Willall larger and finned sump pans for both engine and transmission. Willall Brakes water spray cooling system. Willall Front splitter New 18" rims and slicks for track days. Apparently the above should get me well over 400 Kw at the wheels? The other bits are necessary to help hold it and me together. Basically, all I have ever wanted is a 10 second daily driver.
