Hi all,

ive done a search but havent found anything helpful.

the clutch in my r33 gtst is randomly slipping, it only slips ever so lightly every now and again when in high gears and under slight load. as i come on boost it slips for a second or two then grabs and the car takes off. it doesnt do it all the time so im just wondering what the cause could be?

could it be the fluid levels?

i know the r33 clutches are hydraulic so cant adjust it like the cable style clutches but will adjusting the master cylinder rod behind the pedal do anything?

is it time for a new clutch ( if so wouldnt it slip all the time?)

If its slipping theres a good chance its time for a new one. Do a little test to make it slip, drive along in 3rd or 4th, clutch pedal in then some high revs, dump the clutch and if it slips its buggered.

your clutch has lost some of its clamping force through wear. had a extreme clutch that would be ok down low but and higher speeds and putting the foot down it would slip. when it was taken out the flywheel and pressure plate were worn down(surprisingly the clutch plate was still ok). as stated, take it easy and save for a new one

yeah ive toned it right down dont want to do any damage.

so the clutch is on its way out, what are your recommendations for a good clutch for street and possibly track duties in the future the car has 230rwkw so would need to handle atleast that but if im going to do it then might aswell do it properly the first time.

so what do you use? what are they like and how much roughly?

A leaking rear main oil seal could potentially throw a bit of oil around causing a bit of slip of the clutch.

But if you are going to replace the clutch then obvoiusly do the rear main, spigot bushing and gearbox input seal while you're there.

exactly !

when i didnt drive my car for 1 week or so then go to drive it, it would slip abit but then when it warmed up it would never do it again (stock clutch)

i thought my clutch was on its way out, when we pulled it out to put a new one in, found the stock clutch to be in excellent condition and that the rear main seal was leaking ever so slightly

its a realy good idea to replace the rear main seal while you do your clutch
