How would XR6's be legal then?

because they are an australian car brah.

or maybe, just maybe, it is because the restrictions are based off power to weight ratios (or just outright power in some states), the target value being under about 120kw/ton. the 350gt comes in well over this number since it's power output is 206kw (compared to the falcon's 195kw) and it weighs about 300kg less than the 1700kg falcon (based of the FG which comes in at 114kw/ton - the highest for any natro 6 cylinder falcon). in qld though the car must be under 200kw (plus non turbo, etc). this actually rules out the sv6 commodore, since it has 210kw, although it is right on the limit for some other states using the power to weight ratio rule.

Well NSW has the restrictions:

NO turbo

NO 8 cylinders or more

plus the following 6 cylinder vehicles

  • BMW M and M3.
  • Honda NSX.
  • Nissan 350Z and 370Z (including private or 'grey' import variants eg. Infiniti G35, Infiniti G37, Skyline 350GT (V35), Skyline 370GT (V36)).
  • All Porsches from 1994 models onwards (except diesel).
  • Mercedes Benz SLK350.

if you do the calculations you will find that pretty much all cars have a power to weight ratio of higher than 120kw/ton (which is what the old rule used to be. obviously they decided to change it to a simple list of restricted cars to stop people complaining because they put their car on the dyno and it made less than 120kw at the wheels so they should be able to drive it.

The smartest thing to do is rip all the things that contribute to the heavy weight of the vehicle. I mean, take out the sound-deadening, carpets, spare wheel. Remove the air-con unit, take all the glass out and just have nothing. Take the wheels and engine out of the car too and it will probably be faster than it was before.

actually fg xr6 goes really hard. my friend has one (auto), it completely demolished my NA R34 from second gear onwards after i dropped the clutch in 1st gear.

What do you expect? You're comparing a milk bottle to a wine cask.

Also, the XR6 is a family car. I'd buy one to tow my 32 to the drifts and take my grandmother out to lunch in.
