Battery Disconnection

hey guys i need to change the globes in my dash cluster. to be safe i need to disconnect battery as per normal however i have just had a microtech ecu put in would me disconnecting the battery effect the ecu in anyway such as ecu looses tune memory?

umm, why are you disconnecting the battery to change dash lights? if the car has abs, simply pull the abs fuse if you are worried, but i've never bothered. i've changed dash lights with the lights turned on and it didn't blow any fuses.

and no, disconnecting the battery doesn't affect tune, just like how turning off your computer doesn't make it lose all the data on the hard drive.

well its in a vl so no no abs and i was only going to do it as a precution it may have been a dumb question but i just had it done and i guess im just being paranoid

If u are working on or near a starter motor or alternator then u should disconnect the battery.

If u are modifying wiring then disconnect too.

Changine globes etc make sure the key is off and the lights are off.

No ecu should lose its memory. If it does there is a wiring issue or faulty ecu. But this wouod normally be found when turning the key off

ecu won't lose it's memory from a wiring issue (stock ecu will lose self learn stuff, but nothing related to the tune). you can totally remove any ecu from the car, let it sit on your desk for a week, put it back in and the tune should still be on there. if it isn't then the ecu is faulty like you said.

Unless the ecu has just been wired in or the wiring for the car isn't stock ie an engine conversion. it was found that if a certain power wire has not been connected to the ecu then you can tune it all day then turn it off and it won't save the tune.

yeah mine is a engine conversion with a microtech however the battery has gone flat a few times and nothing has changed so i guess i should be fine then
