I've a 1990 Cefiro GTS-R. I've been planning since a very very long time to pop in the engine either the VQ35 or VQ37 engine, gearbox and ecu. Money is not an issue...I can just save up :P Here in dubai, turbo isnt really allowed & I wanna drive my baby anywhere and everywhere without fuss. This isnt dilly dally. I'm very serious about doing this swap :)

1. Will it fit easily OR if it doesnt what modifications do I need to do? Anything else to be taken care of?

2. What engine mounts will I need to put in?

3. Any site on which I could get instructions to pop it in.

5. Would also need an example of this (with pics) done.

Have tried all over but just can't get any info on this. I don't want alternatives but I would like advice. Ahhh! I want this! Ahhhhh! :P

thats no rwd engine lol, vq's are 4wd or fwd if i'm not wrong or?:rofl2:

why are turbocars not allowed?

1. won't be easy lol, you'll need alot of modififactions for that

2. do custom mounts, don't think you can buy them somewhere

3. and 5. interesting project you want, i've searched but didn't find anything

4. can't find your"4th point" >_<

a good friend of me took a half year to put a lancer fwd engine in his old rwd truck(mitsubishi L200), it worked but drove like shit...

would say put a jz or rb in there lol its much more easy and will work good if you do it right...if you want something big and no turbo go 1uz sounds awesome too, everything else is just insane buddy :starwars:

By no means an easy conversion.

VQ DOES come in RWD but I can't think of what cars do.

Cedric/Cima/Gloria come with it but they're all turbo.

You'll need.

Modify crossmember.

Modify gearbox crossmember and mounts.

Custom Exhaust (specifically mid section, but the whole lot might need doing).

Custom intake pipework.

Modify power steering lines

Modify Air Conditioning lines.

Wiring

The list goes on and on.

There's no straight instructions for it.

It has been done but I struggled to find informaiton on it.

Come on people! Think! VQ35 COMES IN A NISSAN 350Z. Its rear wheel drive & its manual. I'm getting everything from a 350z half cut.

Sorry I was only thinking of the cool cars.

Engine box and loom from the halfcut, that's about it.

Crossmembers are different, you're still up for ALOT of fab work dude.

Hit up the forum I linked.

nic i dont think you understand how saudis and the UAE guys operate.

they dont care for "difficulty"... if they want something. they will build it.

i have seen an Evo 9 with an LS7 RWD convert from over there

if a retard can build that - surely this isn't a stretch! :P

and 350Z are awesome are you bonkers?

I have a V35 with the VQ35DE, rear wheel drive, the wifes car.

The biggest issue you will have will be the electronics, these cars have a CAN communictation system which connects between all the different modules, engine control module, body control module, instrument cluster, ABS, traction control. At least it is a manual!

Can you go for a all alloy Nissan V8 with less technology?

@ Nic :

Thanks man. I kind of already suspected that electrical work would be a kickass pain in the ass so thats all right. Fab work I did not think about. Thanks man.

@ Mr. Eps :

First of all, did you get your nickname from the numb3rs show? :P:) I'm not an arab from Saudi or UAE. I'm a pakistani guy but I live in Dubai. I just like the VQ35 a lot so I'm getting it. Interesting fact on the Evo though. Man! That would be sum killer ride!

@ CeffyNSW :

Yes budd. Electrics would be a helluva problem. But I'm connecting separate metres rather than the cluster originally installed plus I don't really want traction control. Would be hell expensive. Gonna ask an electrician to get all that done. Lets see what happens. & for God's sake man, a V8? seriously? I'm better off with something that awesome and reliable.

Haha never said you were I'm just saying the Saudis do some insane stuff.. Must be the air over there..

Some one built a 980hp atw AWD z30 soarer =\

And no.. What's the numbers reference man?? Like what's mr eps in numbers show??

My name I've had since I first became a member here in 2004.. Or 03 I forget which..

But basically it's just "sperm" spelled backwards. Haha

People think my real surname is "eps" now. It's kinda annoying to explain everyday =\ anyway.. Good lick with this you seem to know your stuff..

But honestly if you want something a bit easier???

I know a guy selling a BRAND NEW CRATE ENGINE vvti 1jz gte

Brand we turbo. Lines. Hoses. Head bottom end.. Complete engine brand new ne'er used

Nomi, check out this link; http://motamota.r31skylineclub.com/index.php?topic=135040.0

It's a big read, but this fella has a VQ35, 6 speed in his R31 Skyline, which is as close to your engine bay as you're going to find. There's heaps of detail in the thread, and he has adderessed all the issues you might come across.

Good luck with the conversion.

Cheers, Dale

@ Mr Eps: I know I could get a 1jz in quite easily. I just WANT to pop in a VQ35. That's all. Plus 1jz in Dubai won't pass unless you know soime people. & I've no idea how the ac will be in that.

@ Daleo: Thanks mate. Was quite happy to read ur post right up to the moment when I tried to open that page which wouldn't until I registered on it so I tried to do that and now it says that I can't register until and unless I've an ISP account :(

Ah yeah, that makes sense; it's in the members section of the forum. Maybe get in touch with the site admins on the forum?

    • Reading your posts Josh, sometimes I feel like I've gone in a time machine back to the 90's when everyone was doe-eyed and figuring things out for the first time.  I've lost track of how many single turbo GTR's I've seen on track that haven't burnt down lol. Everything has been figured out a long time ago. These things are at the point now where its essentially turn-key to go single turbo.
    • Among other things yes. Making sure to either use an oil pressure regulator or the right restrictor size for your oil pump/range of oil viscosities you intend to run, making sure you plumb the lines correctly, turbo should be placed such that it siphons properly even when the water pump isn't turning so you don't boil coolant in the turbo after shutdown, oil return should be low resistance and also preferably picking the one that is most likely to return to the pickup as opposed to some other irrelevant part of the pan. It's far from impossible to figure this out but I have seen people really, really struggle and if that's the case it's easier to just take the path of least resistance. To me, bolt-on twin turbos are a fixed cost whereas single turbo is almost unbounded.
    • Latest round of updates on the car. I purchased and installed a SWS clutch slipper to help with 60ft times and got some second-hand good condition 275/40R17 Hoosier DR2 radials. Test and tune in November showed the tyres were an upgrade over my over 15 year old mickey Thompson's and I got a 1.8 second 60ft and pb et of 11.71 but even then, that run wasn't great due to rain and driver error (the event got called off 10 minutes later fast forward to the weekend just gone 25th of Jan and there was finally a break in the weather to let racing happen. The first run the track was slippery and only managed a 12.1@129 Second run the track was better and got a new pb et and mph: 11.54@131   Lith and I then worked out that I installed the previously mentioned clutch slipper incorrectly and its never been working, and I had just been dumping the clutch the entire time, we also noticed it was on street boost and not race boost. So I lined up for a third run with the car turned up in the first two gears, but the passengers side axle objected to clutch dumps and left the chat which stopped my weekend.   so there will be another attempt in the future once I replace the tyres as they rubbed and are stuffed now. but a low 11 should be on the cards.
    • Ceramic coating and heat shielding, you mean?
    • Turbos don't require pulling the motor apart so that's "easier". I would recommend the Nismo R3 turbos instead if you want to do stock twin turbo. It doesn't make as much power as the 2530s but it's only like ~50 whp off the mark and should have better response (ball bearing CHRA, slightly smaller turbo). A local that went with a Garrett G30 and 6boost manifold recently nearly burned his car to the ground after the hood insulator started melting and and burning so if you go single turbo I recommend doing a lot of research and validation work to make sure you don't do the same.
