Hey guys i just picked my car up from the machanics were it had just got new splitfire coils nd plugs put in nd on the drive home i was testing it out nd all of a suddend it started sounding real rough nd has no power now. almost sounds like a wrx but with no power

Can any1 give me any ideas 2 wat might of happend?

Time to learn how to change coil packs yourself. You'll need 2 hands, a socket set and a set of hex keys. Go get 'em cowboy/cowgirl.

No seriously....the mechanic didn't put them on properly. Either a plug has fallen off a coilpack, the coilpack isn't seated onto the plug properly or the screws are missing from the coilpack brackets. Many mechanics are so hopeless it could be all 3.

You will work it out by taking it apart and putting it back together. The coilpacks are under the cover in between the cam covers, under the cross-over intake pipe. Yes, you have to remove the cross-over pipe, then it is plain sailing. You do not have to remove the spark plugs. Make it a game and time yourself. If you do it in less than 60mins your GF owes you a blowey.

Take car back to mechanics?

If you want to do it yourself, remove the valley cover...then put the pipes back together so you can start it up again. While idling, remove and replace each coilpack loom plug...one at a time...until you get to a coilpack that makes no difference to how the car sounds. This is your non-firing cylinder. Try swapping that coilpack with another healthy coilpack, and see if the non-firing cylinder has changed places or stayed in the same spot. If the problem follows that coilpack to the other cylinder, then faulty coilpack...if the problems stays at the same cylinder then it could be a faulty spark plug or coilpack loom plug.

My car done this with brand new coils. One of the coils died. Then they all died. New set works brilliantly. One of your cylinders isn't sparking. Unplug each coil one by one with the engine running to see which one does not make it run worse. When you unplug one and you don't notice a change, you know that cylinder setup is f**ked.

Probably not what mine was, but after i replaced my ecu i found the connection wasnt the best and was causing this exact same thing. I also had the same thing happen when i replaced my coil packs, and in a hurry forgot to clip number 6 back in!

Oh yeah, and definately do ur plugs and coil packs ur self from now on- you wouldnt believe how easy it is. Im not the most mechanically minded person and it takes me less than half an hour to pull out gap and replace all my plugs.. not worth paying someone else for it, especially since they got it wrong

Check if the ground for the ignitor pack is properly on . And if it starts doing it while it gets hotter its most likely the ignitor module. Try using a spray like contact cleaner and spray it on the ignitor while the car is running as the contact cleaner will cool the igniter down very quickly and your revs might stabilise. Thats what happened to my car , had to get a ignitor from the wreckers , and problem solved. Wish i knew that before i changed to another set of Splitfires and new plugs..

This problem occurs mostly with CA's because theyre so old now , so I guess since RB's are getting older this is going to start happening to them aswell.

    • Hey all, not sure how active SAU is anymore but will ask away anyways. Just wanted to get some experience on the 2008 model GTR CBA model.  I've hit that age in my life (43) where I'm like fk it time to get my dream (midlife crisis) car. Looking at importing one in and seeing if these can be reliable if the main flaws are fixed up. Plan is to keep money aside to do the following straight off the bat to future proof it: * install a stage 1 rebuilt trans with all new bits and pieces.  * install a new Bellhousing from the later model GTRs. Or potentially an upgraded stronger version like MAD or ATR. Besides the above two things and typical maintenance items anything else you'd recommend doing.   Been speaking to a few people and the engine on these are very reliable apparently. But keen on the view of the community here. Hoping to find a nice grade 4.5 with low mileage in Grey. I'd go black but swirls too easy. Look forward to your responses and feedback. Cheers
    • Do Alan and Keith work on Skylines now? I remember buying stuff from them when I owned my Ralliart Lancer a few moons ago. Definitely genuine guys and be excellent if they dealt with the skyline platform as well.
    • Hey all, I'm Gaston from Sydney's West.  I was a member on here when I was a younger lad and owned a mint R33 GTS-T. Ended up selling it and getting married having kids (yadda yadda) we all know how the story goes. Now I'm back with the intention to get my midlife crisis (dream) car ... a R35 GTR.  You'll see me about asking questions and searching the forums. Good to be back and can't wait to get back an Import again.
    • I have to put something here in order to post the photos. From what I could gather there's more enthusiasm for modified cars now than there has been for years. There were probably more younger people there than older (me included lol) which was a good sign.  It did seem like the record least amount of representation of the 90's era hero cars on display though. Like maybe one or two examples of S-chassis Nissans, and maybe 3 or 4 R-chassis. By comparison there were a lot of Civics from that era but in all there were about 10 - 12 EG/EK Civic Type R.  Euro exotics are always there in large numbers, led by Liberty Walk...... say what you will about kids using markers to scribble on a Ferrari F40, it did seem like a stunt to infuriate Ferrari enthusiasts, or Ferrari itself. I wonder if there's something more to it. Either way LBWK have done some heinous things to a Lamborghini Miura this time. They should stop now.
    • Engines and drivelines are not war stoppers for me mate, busted arse bodies and un-obtainium parts and panels are though Both cheap Brumbies I looked at had trashed tubs and a fair bit of rust
