There is probably a small form factor computer under the chair. Its called a carputer. Basic computer connected to the head unit. Looks like he built it him self too. You can buy a empty double din housing off the net, buy a lilliput screen and a itx board with a core2 cpu.

Putting together a CarPC is reasonably cheap, I run a VoomPC-2 from mini-box.com in my Stagea, it's about the size of my 500W amp (allows me a bit of extra room for expansion cards) and lives under the passenger seat.

Screens are the expensive bit, or at least they were when I first built mine.. a good quality screen was more than the cost of the PC!

If I was to do it again I would use one of those new USB screens.

As for the software, you don't need NIStune all the time. I have it on there but find that Datascan is easier to use on a daily basis for monitoring and diagnostics.

Because I cbf fitting a carpc back into the Skyline I've been looking at the ECUTalk boxes and find myself leaning that way for this application as it still works with NIStune.

It depends on what you want I guess.

With Nistune you need a Laptop and the Consult-Cable ..

But then it's Gameboy vs. Playstation.

(so not really comparable though both let you play games)

How do you access the connector for the hand controller?

Do you have to remove the car panel in front of the ECU (PFC)?

Here's another 'pro' for Nistune:

PFC for the R33 GTST is really hard to find (and expensive)

Further I think the development of the PFC is dead, Nistune is ongoing with constant software updates and quick support by Mr. Nistune himself ..

you run a $5 ps2 keyboard extension lead into the hand controller port and just leave the cable coiled up under the carpet

i was always able to find r33 GTST powerfcs either on ebay or car forum people selling at reasonable prices, 1100 max

yeah powerfc is a mature and stable product

plug it in, it works, away you go

the whole car computer imho is fiddgety and way over the top

apexi should have made a logger box for the powerfc but then its starting to venture in markets it didnt need to

so if u want logging you go fc hako or consult

Back then I searched high and low for a GTST version and actually one in eight seemed for the GTST, the rest for GTR.

Nistune has a good 'maturity level', but since with Nistune the functionalities are many, there is always something people

would like to see.

As for data-logging and saving your maps I think that the PFC was too much clutter/boxes you needed to have.

Nistune does it all!

But don't get me wrong the PFC is a nice unit, shame they went belly up - otherwise they might have added an USB-port

And yes, the R33 units are difficult to source and on high(er) demand so prices are up.
