Some people have given the opinion that its a $10,000 exercise, not all. Are you implying that he only should listen to a select few opinions?!

My point about the bodykits/paint is that they are essentially useless performance wise, as is the 6 speed box.. But nobody seems to jump up and down about other people spending their money on cosmetics. I fail to see how that doesnt relate to this thread where a select few are acting like its their f**king money being spent.

My point about the bodykits/paint is that they are essentially useless performance wise

Well dude no shit. That is hardly the point. No one fixes a cars old paint job to new because they think it will give them performance. That's like saying building a bigger bathroom in the house is essentially useless performance wise for your car. I mean, what the?

If you want to talk a proper analogy it is like buying an aftermarket fuel pressure regulator for a stock Skyline.

I aint saying a 6 speed into a Skyline shouldn't be done. If some one gave me a Getrag and fitted it I would be fairly happy. The discussion here is about an average Joe thinking about putting a 6 speed into his NA R33, not about Top Secret building a $200,000 car with an open cheque book.

Also if this was a discussion about wanting a stronger gearbox obviously there are a heap of gear set options for a lot less money. The discussion here however has no actual reasoning other than "I think a 6 speed would be cool".

Some people have given the opinion that its a $10,000 exercise, not all.

Well given that you will not get a Getrag box under $4000 delivered and then add to the fact that even then the boxes are pretty hard to find inside of Australia makes it a quite reasonable price including every single cost. I remember in highschool I worked at a performance workshop afterschool and we were trying to track down a Getrag for a Supra manual conversion. I rang up about 5 of our big suppliers in Australia and nearly all of them laughed at me. They said even if they did have one they wouldn't be selling it. But fine, let's say it wasn't $10,000, let's say it was $7000. Really doesn't change the point.

Also in case some people don't know. Nismo actually make a 6 speed conversion as a complete kit:

Cheapest option is $11,000 with no freight or obviously any labour.

Yes you certainly did address them in your own SPECIAL way.. My original point is that people can spend ridiculous money on cosmetics for their car and justify it- why not on a gearbox? you somehow turned that into comparisons of house renovations and fuel pressure regulators, then said "im not saying it shouldnt be done" (about the gearbox)

Fact of the matter is you have provided nothing in this thread besides trying to be a smart arse. If you have nothing of worth to add, or cant help the thread owner at all f**k off.

Also "all that time typing". Dude I don't know how long it takes you to type but that above took me like 2 minutes.

I was actually referring to how much you wrote, but still managed to come up with no valid point.. And sorry dude, i didnt know you were a secretary.

Your post that I addressed was:

My point about the bodykits/paint is that they are essentially useless performance wise

I said the house renovation thing because it was equally as stupid as your post.

The fuel pressure regulator comment was because it was atleast on par. People buy them for no real reason, waste money and get nothing out of it. Basically the same as the situation here. OP has no real reason for wanting one, will waste a HUGE amount of money and get nothing out of it.

then said "im not saying it shouldnt be done" (about the gearbox)

In the situation for the OP though he clearly had no idea about the costs (just like every one else that makes this exact thread). And therefore it shouldn't be done.

As a general overall, sure it can be done and if some one has a huge amount of cash to spend and they have reasoning go for it. This aint the case here.

Fact of the matter is you have provided nothing in this thread besides trying to be a smart arse. If you have nothing of worth to add, or cant help the thread owner at all f**k off.

Really? And you have? If anything every one here has given proper advice other than YOU.

I was actually referring to how much you wrote, but still managed to come up with no valid point.. And sorry dude, i didnt know you were a secretary.

Stop trying to make the snide personal attacks. I'm not going to bite or drop to your level.

Yeah you are right, i am in the same boat as you that i have NOT given any advice to the op.. The difference being im not being a complete f**kwitt to him. Then again its pretty easy to be a tough guy behind the computer isnt it?

Actually I gave him quite a lot of advice regarding his engine build. Also where was I giving him shit? I even said my post wasn't aimed at giving him shit but more addressing the fact he wasn't taking any ones advice.

I didn't need to say anything about the gearbox since every one had allready summed it up.

But fine, if you want a proper post from me regarding the gearbox to the OP here it is:

OP. What every one has said in this thread (other than cannabiscorpse) is true. The cost of the exercise will be huge and offer little gain. Save the money for something else or rebuild the box/diff with the ratios you want if that is the reasoning.

You are horrible at proper discussions. You remind me of people that are involved in debates that start losing and instead turn it into personal attacks.

You don't address any of my points but simply say something like that.

I'm trying to keep this civilised. I could easily do what your doing, cop a warning and get the thread locked. But what's the point?

edited out personal attack- The way i see it is that you came in here attacking the op, then had a cry when you got the same treatment in return. Obviously this is going to continue forever so im outta this thread.

Ok now that you girls are finished, waddayarekn Phil, GB on the nismo kits... :whistling:

the point is that yes u can spend a dick load on bodykits/ wheels etc and it will never be justified, but these mods realy dont do anything to hinder the car apart from maybe hitting speed humps coz of how low the kit is etc.

OP was trying to justify that spending a shit load on this 6 speed box was going to be the end to all of his problems when in fact was most probably going to do nothing other than relieve him of his hard earned money.

cannot compare cosmetic mods to mechanical mods, cosmetics wont affect how it drives there fore spending cash for some is considered ok, but doing shit like this will affect the car in how it drives good or bad but he hasnt even driven one so imagine his surprise when he did all the hard work then drove it and was no better than before.

hahaha well done phil. OP listen to everybody who has posted apart from cannibal. There is no point in a 6 speed swap apart for wank factor. If you are chasing higher speed vs rpm change your final drive ratio like the rest of the worlds car community does. 6 speed boxes should be left in the car they came from unless you have an open cheque book for a track car/top speed vehicle

    • Pre-empting heat management  1. The Kraken manifold will be ceramic coated 2. Just purchased some peel and stick heat shielding stuff from car builders, I'll cover some of the firewall behind the dump and a little on the cam cover, this will be done prior to installation as I have ample room to get where I need to now before that realestate has more bits in the way, I'm also planning to modify the OEM heat shield to go back on, but that won't happen until after installation so I know where to hack it up, I'll also cover it with some some peel and stick to neaten it up after the hacking 3. As the dump is stainless with a flex joint coating isn't really a option, and wrapping isn't recommended for a stainless dump, so once it is installed I'll grab some shielding from car builders to cover the dump, as it has some stand off, it "shouldn't" cause any issues and it "should" just keep the radiant heat away from " melty engine bay stuff" Not for heat management, but I've grabbed some more black crinkle coat to paint all the shiny intake pipes, I'll pick the pipe work up prior to installation and use the paint booth and big oven at work to cure them, I'll then wrap them with some bubble wrap so they stay nice during installation

    • YO- have been searching and searching for an a31 chassis plug pinout, or someone who knows which wire is for tach.  ceffy was flooded past dash during a hurricane.  having an electrical gremlin appear. tach is wonky reading consistent with a short, and on occasion the right side of my speedo lighting will flicker just for a second then go back to normal.  if no pinout available does anyone know if the tach harness opens or branches anywhere behind the dash? im suspecting a possible root behind the radio as there are more shorts in that area on the accessory loop.
