Hey everyone,

my OEM clutch is on its last leg, i am thinking of a Excedy heavy duty clutch. If anyone has a excedy heavy duty cushion button kit one, is it any better?

What are the positives and negatives with them?

any opinion is appreciated smile.gif

cheers

James

Hey i have the exedy heavy duty rated to 250kw, there a good clutch, im not sure bout the cushioned button clutch but ive driven the 5puk button and hated it, the cushioned one is supposed to be better having more pucks i think,

If choosing again id go with the fully organic sport heavy duty clutch, handles 280kw apparently, apparently it bites more than just the Heavy duty.

Hope that helps..

When I got my car it had the Exedy Hyper Single, HATED it. On/off, NO grab point, just immediately engaged at a certain point. Good for track, SHIT for normal driving. When I killed that (fairly quickly), I got the Sports Organic... VERY nice. Feels like an OEM clutch (in terms of grab point), just harder pedal effort.

Yah I recently installed the same exedy heavy duty racing clutch similar to the sports. Feels great, again a little more pedal effort is req, still a little give in the pick up point but is ready to engage quickly during track work. Well priced aswell, I got mine trade for around the $550 mark (Trade). Installed myself though so saved some dosh. Would recomend to any daily/track driven under 300kw. Only thing i was dissapointed about was the fact that the pressure plates are no longer the fluro pink lol. Just Silver.

Is that for your non-turbo? If so, the exedy HD clutch would be more than enough, overkill actually. Certainly no need for a button clutch unless you have some weapon under the bonnet?

If it is fr an NA I'd also be looking at a lightened flywheel. Apparently it can makes a big difference, esp to NA's which aren't exactly pushing the power limits of the engine. Have a search in the NA section for more info.

If it's not for your GT, how much power do you have/are you hunting?

Ooh one other thing with the r34 gtt you can fit an r33 gtr clutch, which costs slightly less and does a better job. Give andrew a call at kudos if you want to know more, from memory he's sold dozens of r33 gtr clutches to r34 gtt owners.

Not sure if the gt is a pull type or push type clutch though, can anyone confirm this?

Hey mate,

Thats bull, dont get ripped off, shouldnt cost that much, should be no more than 1200

mine cost 1100, but i got several quotes at 1200, i did it twice cause the first time was the button clutch, i didnt like it so i decided id just do it all myself the second time, so the clutch coast bout $500, but you gotta machine fly wheel cost bout $50.

so if you have a few mates that can help and time, then maybe do it yourself and save some dough, but 1500, thats a rip off :domokun:

while they got it off make sure they replace that seal between the engine and box, rear main seal i think it is orelse you might have oil come thru onto clutch eventually, and also that the flywheel and clutch cover plate have a properly machined face and are the same looking face so the clutch doesnt slip or engage like its jarring,

Its good to get it right so you dont have to do it twice...

good luck

thanks for every ones' inputs :) appreciated

@Galois, its just a NA, pretty stock lol

got quoted $1500 for and HD organic...over priced?

I sure hope that's including labour lol, even so its a massive ripoff. I haven't checked (and can't easily as I'm on my phone) but kudos probably has an exedy HD kit for 750 ish. To be honest a HD clutch is overkill, but the grabbyness is fun.

Labour would be 400-600, but even 600 is a bit of a rip. The big question now is do r34 gt's have a push type clutch (like the r32/r33 gts's and gtst's) or a pull type clutch (like the gtr's and r34 gtt). The difference being most cars have a push type clutch which means most mechanics can do it.

When I got my r34 gtt clutch changed by a very experienced mechanic he didn't know how to change a pull type clutch, couldn't get the pressure plate to release and ended up cutting a hole in the bell housing (I know, wtf right?). So its worth any extra money to get it done by a performance mechanic with a good rep on here. Though it wont necessarily be more expensive, as someone familiar with skylines will do the job quicker.

If its a push type its worth upgrading the pivot ball to the misnomer one for round $70 as they're prone to failure. Push types also tend to be cheaper.

being NA would it even need a heavy duty clutch?? what about just the standard turbo clutch? or is it more about the feel of a heavier clutch cause its not gonna put out much power to burn out a stock turbo clutch is it?? so a stock turbo clutch could be dont for even less dough...

If Cassbo has removed my clutch from his car, I'll have a 4.5kg chrome moly flywheel, 1250kg pressure plate and a standard clutch plate for sale for a couple of hundred... This combo held up behind a skid crazy RB25/30DET for a while and never had a drama.

PM me if you're interested...

Price difference between exedy normal (the only replacement) and HD was <100 when I did mine

    • @Vee37 How much do you really care about finding these pads again? If your pads are quiet, work well and produce minimal dust, really isn't that enough? If you are set on finding the exact pads again, I suppose I'd do something like this -  Visit your local Jax, find out what brand of pads they carry. If the Jax workshop you previously went to had the pads on the shelf, then you can almost guarantee it will be of said brand.   I'm guessing you don't have the receipt for the previous work and pads. Can you visit a Jax workshop and see if they can look up your previous job to see what pads were fitted?  Still no luck? Put your stalker hat on, find the staff that used to work at the Jax store and ask them. Talk to local workshops, try to find out where the mechanics went to. Talk to Jax workshops, maybe they relocated to another workshop. When it comes to mechanics, its a small world. You'd be surprised how easy it is to track someone down. If these ideas don't work, shit will start getting crazy very quickly.... You could find out every brand and model of pad that fits that car... and try them individually ticking each off the list if it wasn't the one you were looking for.... If you go down this path your going to want to learn how to swap pads yourself, it is very easy, takes minimal tools and space. If you have room to park the car you have room to swap the pads. Plus you have the advantage of making sure all the brake hardware goes back in so they won't squeal!
    • You miss spelled bearings...
    • Just putting it out there, that's a decent list. You would be better off *not* doing *any* of that and buying someone else's modded car. Like mine. Or anybody else's. Yes it's lotto dependent and all this and that but that 70K (remember, double your guesses) could go elsewhere. Keep it stock, save your money, go lowball @Dose Pipe Sutututu :p
    • Does not mean what you think it means. The continual rising coefficient is the coefficient of friction that continues to rise with increasing temperature. Not "rising during a single stop", except inasmuch as the brakes should get hotter during a single stop. The RR would not be the best choice for a streeter. Yeah....no it's not. JAX would rummage around in the "shit pads we use for all shitboxen that come in here" and install those.
    • @Kinkstaah I've got my list.. but most of them is to do if I ever win the lotto
