I found out about ths engine while I was scouring the world for a cefiro for my old man... and I've found it in Nissan Altima 2.4 (Ceffy's with 2.4 litre RB24S engines) around Asia mostly (specifically in Saudi Arabia and the Phillipines).

Its apparently a inline 6 carbed engine rated at 141HP.

I'm also making a website cataloging most of the RB series engines, and the cars they were in, so does anyone have any more info on this wierd and wonderful RB engine (and yes it IS an RB engine).

Apparently these engines also exist:

RB24S

RB30S

CA16DE

CA18S

CA20S

SR18DE

RB20E

But I'm not really after info on em

RB30S VL Commodore (New Zealand model)

CA16DE EXA (the targa top ones)

CA20S S3 Bluebird

RB20E Skyline pov pack (apparently these even come in a NEO form in R34s??)

and ive seen a video with an r31 coupe with an RB24 of some sort with triple carbs and a heap of stuff done to it and it sounded horn!

yeah RB20E's are the Plasma series Engines from R32 onwards, along with RB25E are options on 32's, 33s and 34's.

Hey you'd be a good person to ask, know of any 1989 Cefiro's goin around with RB20DET's or RB25DET's in em that are for sale? Preferrably Auto (for my old man, I want the engine)

i'm interested in the 2.4 engine, after all i am looking into getting a 32 with either a rb25 or rb20.

i called the distirbutor here once to ask them about parts for the RB20 or RB25 engines, their response was that they never had any parts for any engine that has initials starting with RB, also they told me that spare parts for the CA20 engine are available (orignally on a laurel).

i guess the parts are interchangable between the CA20 and the CA18, but what about the altima's 2.4 and the R32's RB ?

many thanks

heard quite a bit about the rb24s but nothing exciting.

also dont forget the sr16ve.

there were a numbers of other rb motors but they were specials put together by tuners so not nissan. never heard of an rb 25e I have heard of and driven an and rb20e yuk yuk yuk they wont go over 150 or 160 klms some one told me. I might know of an rb 20det cefiro auto here in aus. and lastly dont for get the rd28 diesel as used in the laurels and a few other cars.

cheers

I believe there were some diesel R30 and R31 Skylines in Japan. Perhaps this engine saw use in those as well. Will get back to this thread with more info.

i meant if they were compatiable in terms of pistons, rings, bearings, belts and bearings seals...etc.

because as far as i know, the 1jz engine shares a lot with the 2jz, thats why many people around here are getting 1jz powered mark ii's. just wanted to know if it was the same with the skylines.

RB 24S replaced the L24,L28 .for counties like carbean that cant fix RB20E.

2 liter block and crank with 3 liter bore size.RB30S is also speced for the R31,GULF STATES.

My RB20E R31 passage goes good now ive using a rb30e auto trans controler.

I have a RD28 manual fitted in pintara wagon.all factor R31 diesel bits.good for towing.13.5 km/l worst tank.4200 rpm in gear on governor[5500 free rev] loaded or un loaded..

well cefy's are the old maxima's... so I guess the RB24S was the standard maxima engine in that region... come to think of it, I think Sri Lankahad the same car.

    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
    • So, now all you need to do is connect the 2 or 3x 12v feeds into the unit to permanent 12v, ACC 12V and IGN 12V that you can find in the spot behind the stereo, and the earth, and then it will switch on with the car.
