hey guys i have a r32 gtr and its got a spun the bottom end..I have no intentions of rebuilding it for about 18 months, and I've cancelled the rego.

the actual question is.. what should i do to the car eg drain all the fuel out, its got about half a tank of fuel. its probally going to go stale in that time.

What else?? drain the engine oil, remove battery?

also should i get a car cover?? the car is sitting in a shed but it still gets really dusty. do they help much.

any other things i should do??

Cheers Tim.

Better of waxing the car and not putting a cover on, if its open to the elements the cover will scratch the paint and also keep in humidity allowing rust and mould to form, better of letting it dust up.

interesting so leaving a car in front of the yard with a good car cover = bad idea ?

IMO, I would give it a good clean and wax, then get a decent car cover (Like ones with felting on the inside) with venting.

Better then leaving it out in the open for a year where contaminants in the air and bird dropping build up.

EDIT: If you drive the car everyday, don't get a cover (Unless you wipe your car down after every time you drive it), as taking it on and off will scratch the paint.

I would still recommend one for the OP, but a cheapy with venting will do.

thanks for advice, what about engine oil is there a need to drain it aswell?? engine is going to get a full rebuild so all seals and gaskets will be replaced,

I'm no expert in the engine area or car area at all really haha, but if all seals and gasket will be replaced in the future, won't you have to drain it anyway?

Unless there is a possibility of rust buildup without oil?

Doesn't matter. The engine's getting a rebuild anyway?

Drain the fuel, good clean wax/polish, leave the oil in and coolant if its sitting in the shed. just leave it uncovered as long as nothing is going to get dropped on it etc. I dont like covers as they have a tendency to rub the paint.

meh. wont make any difference just park it and forget about it. It will be exactly the same when you go to get it just a little dustier. Just dont try to get the dust off by hand high pressure wash only. i would flush the radiator probably and possibly wax it but thats it.

Mine sat in a shed for over year, got trucked out for new paint then trucked back. Needed a new battery then started first kick without any problem never emptied the fueel or anything. That was four years ago and Ive had no problems. As long as its in a shed it will be fine dont stress
