hello all,

we are new to this forum so firstly thanx for all the advice i have already learned ,

currently have a r33 96 vspec modificatrions so far include

microtech lt12

dump pipes

exhaust

big ****in intercooler

pwer so far after latest tune 257 rwkw@1bar. which we are quite happy with....

further upgrades will include

electronic boost, turbos, air intake, cam gears,

questions are...

which turbos???

we will be driving this car almost everyday so driveaqbility is a major concern ,

i am thinking garrets due to thier price , something perhaps just bigger than n1's cause most i know with n1's have not acheived their desired power gains, any input appreciated.....

p.s. whats the garret equivalant to 2530's???

the HKS GT2530s or the Nismo N1 turbos are the best options for a street GTR.

if interested, a friend of mine (in melb.) is selling a pair of R32 Nismo GTR turbos.

oh yeah,

maybe , dont know about nizmo turbos what are they rated at? how much?

how old are they? why he selling them?

i think ill buy new ones but always open to suggestions....

so what are the garret equivilent to 2530's/2540's????? anyone??

also has anyone used 2540's are they a pig to drive on the street???

the Nismo turbos are rated at about 320hp each, so they'll be good for about 650bhp on the RB26DETT.

my friend's aren't that old as they were reco'd 6 months prior to removing them (removed last month) and they were only run at 12psi.

he's selling them b/c he came across a pair of HKS GT2530s.

if you're after brand new units, check these guys out:

Hi tribex, as most people will tell you, a pair of 2530's on a 2.6 litre GTR is almost the perfect all round turbo set up. Good response, easy fit up, reliable and plenty of power for a road car that sees the track occasionally. The Garrett equivalent to the HKS 2530 is the GT28 with this spec;

0.64 A/R Turbine Housing

0.60 A/R Compressor Housing

Watercooled, Ball Bearing Core

60 Trim Compressor Wheel

31 lbs/min max compressor flow

62 Trim Turbine Wheel

Integral Wastegate

1 Bar wastegate

They are rated at 320 bhp per turbo, which is slightly more than the 2530. Their cost new is $2,200 each. GCG do a Garrett GTR Spec which is rated at 350 bhp each, but I haven't tried them.

Hope that is of some help

Tribex:

Don't write off the N1's. I've achieved a very good figure using them only part way through development (still developing).

Over 400HP at the wheels can easily be achieved with very strong torque figures with minimal internal mods on an RB26. There are 4 different models to choose from. The smallest housing size gives as good response if not better than standard turbo's and the largest housing model coming on boost at around 5K... not so good for street use in my opinion ;-)

Remember Kw win dyno comps but Torque rules the street!! So think about where you'll be using it.. or showing it.. in some peoples case.. yawn...

I think its only fair to post some N1 results just to show what they can be made to do. I encourage others to do the same!!

But as I'm sure most will be quick to point out, Turbo's suit the purpose in mind and if not spec'd to suit a result, can and often does end in tears.

So choose carefully to suit your requirement.

I do have a spare set of N1's with about 500Km's on them (read brand new basically I have two sets the same due to sort of a mix up) for sale for 4K. Same as I'm running on my car. If you decide to go that route PM me.

Good luck,

Sebaz

I was just talking to Signal's D1 driver (through and interpreter), who is also a mechanic with them, and asked this exact same question - which does he consider best and why, out of N1s and 2530.

His reply was the N1's are 'much better' for a street/daily driven car, as he said they have better bottom end and mid range, but for power the 2530s are the go.

I know of 2 street GTRS in perth that use the hks 2530 turbo's and I am sure both are making around the 400hp/300kw @ wheels area with the right combo dump pipes (like a HKS split pipe) and cam gears you should see them on boost as early as the stock turbo's. When I get a GTR I'm sure I will go with these or I might try the trust equivelents.

thanx fellas,

i am very interested in the garrets t28 and the 2530's and maybe n1's i think 2530's out of preference but the price is going to determine a lot too,

looks like i get new t28's or n1s for about 3k so it will probably be one of the these unless i find a competitive set of 2530's.....

SYDNEYKID do you know how much work is involved to get t28's onto gtr i'm told they are not a bolt on and need new actuators to run over 1 bar??????

after speaking with gcg and others the direct bolt ons are seeming more appealing.......hmmmmmm

currnetly at 257 rwkw hoping to hit 300 with turbos cam gears and maybe 1.2 bar this should be possible???

Hi Tribex, when you buy a new turbo you get new wastegate actuators, I just order them with the appropriate spring rate ie; close to the boost level I intend to run. That way the boost controller only has to correct a small amount.

i have hks 2530's in an r34 gtr and just had a new power run after fixing my boost control issues.

made 412.3rwhp at 17.5psi on dyno dynamics in shootout mode...

next week will get some new plugs for higher boost maybe 22psi i hope....

they pull hard from 4500rpm all they way to 8500rpm...great street and strip turbos....

i dont think the nismo n1 would be in the same power level. more like hks 2510's.

another good option is the trust t517z kit good for 340hp each...

cheers.hope this helps...

i friend of mine (wrxhoon on this forum) has n1's on his 33gtr, he must have the large housing, as instead of what he expected(ie boosting from same or lower revs than stock) they come on boost from 5000rpm and onwards, with a full exhaust and power fc.

so be careful if u are getting N1's in respect to which housing you get if u want low down boost.

hi arup , the turbos are much better now after running them in , i get full boost ( 1.2 bar ) at 4000 rpm in 4 th gear 4300 in 3 rd running a bit rich with these turbos so i have to retune it will be doing so in the next couple weeks .

car was quicker taking off with the old ( stock ) turbos but it has more at the top end now above 6000 rpm .

did u sell ur car ?

Hi Tribex, yeh the 2530 kit from Nengun is a good price at the moment. It takes amost a full day to fit a pair of 2530's, it's not hard, just time consuming. As you have to do it from above and below, it's best done on a hoist. So say $50 per hour for 7 hours, around $350 + GST should cover it. Plus gaskets and seals, which you used to get in the HKS kit anyway, if I remember rightly.

Then add tuning costs of course.
