Not sure if people in other states have heard about the new laws they are trying to pass in S.A. regarding defect laws but heres the basic jist of it

Adelaide now link

So thats on top of what its gonna cost you to fix the defect and get it lifted. So say for a blown headlight it could cost you $150 easy, say you get a cop on a bad day, he can put a sticker on your car "under suspision of defect" BAM! 120 bucks cause he didnt like the look of you.

Say they find a t-piece or aftermarket turbo timer you'r up for $250 fine + whatever it costs to take it over the pits these days!

So what I'm asking is for some support from you interstate stag owners and sign the petition to try to stop this blatant revenue rasing before it finds its way to your state.

Signed.

Don't really have much sympathy for non engineered mods, but Mike Rann is a douche, and SA state govt seems to hate anyone who likes any kind of motorised vehicle, with no real justification.

As you say; it's often the thin edge of the wedge with this kind of profiteering, and dopey mum & dad voters love it when enthusiasts get kicked, so these laws often get in under the "If you're not doing anything wrong; you've got nothing to worry about" tagline.

The problem then comes when there are no clearly defined parameters for the legislation; i.e."Hoon" legislation; and it can be abused really easily.

Once it makes a bit of cash; it spreads...

The next thing you know; the same beige, weak arses that cheered when it was introduced; will find their own "P"' plate kids are getting done for non event defects on their parents cars. Then it's all "Derp, derp, derp, my little Johnny, derp, derp, derp, how can I afford this?"

F##k 'em.

Like non-oem windscreen wiper blades?

Upgraded radiators, brake pads, higher spec tyres, upgraded suspension.....

Yeah, there wouldn't be too many enthusiasts who downgrade components.

Signed

Petition signed....I am sure Mr Rann really cares, he will be driven in a govt car for life

OLD Mark

I would love to do something to mess up the government hard, like a big strike across all of aus or a massive blitz on fixed speed cameras.get a whole lot of people to spray paint over them. Soo people will have to pay a use of oxygen tax, it's getting stupid.

They're also taking away rego stickers to "cut costs" and yet they are talking about rasing rego costs on certain cars and bikes higher than the 2.5% they are already proposing due to them being in a higher risk category or some s#!t. I got an idea y not make it compulsory that we all drive the same non mod'd white toyota prius' and put meters on our rain water tanks. While they're at it they may as well tell a whole shitload of people they're out of jobs cause in the end thats whats its gonna cost.

Yeah not so much on stuff like that, but you probably got that impression from my post.:whistling:

I'm more referring to hamfisted mods with no real forethought, normally structural or braking related.

I signed it: don' be hatin'!:nyaanyaa:

I signed it. Hitting people three times for every defect is rediculous. Especially when you know they'll pay no attention to 80 year olds in their 40 year old cars with their 40 year old brakes and 40 year old suspension, and concentrate entirely on 'hoons'.

Here in Sunny Qld., you can be defected if you do not have a spare wheel. Even if you have an engineers report and a rego accompanied with an RWC.

I think we should start a massive revolution, like rebel forces. We will kick the government out ha ha

we could you know. that had a civil revolt in egypt or somewhere near there. we could do the same. but u'll need to get the whole country on board.

The law would have to change first.

All the mindless sheep think this will only effect 'hoons'. They don't think about it effecting normal, everyday tax payers.

Until it starts to, I think most people will buy into the bullshit media outlets like A Current Affair feed them... "OMG its the hoons again! Deadly, deadly hoons!"

No chance in hell there'll be a blown light bulb or bad brakes in my car, that's for sure. Most other import/modified car owners I know are the same, have too high standards to allow something unsafe.

Yeah it has been done before in other countries. With all the social network sights it's not hard to get word out, I would love to have my name associated to something that big

Just thought i would correct this statement, straight from the super nintendo (intendant) of traffic. it's illegal to have a bald/flat spare tyre and its only illegal to not have a spare if you don't have an aerosol repair can.

Another strange law that I wasn't aware of - If you have your licence suspended, when you get it back you are returned to your red p's for twelve months, for example, no turbos no v8s and no driving between 11pm and 5 am

    • I should note too as I have all 4 wheel speed inputs to the emtron I now have the emtron controlling the attessa solenoid for 4wd/traction and launch control strategies.
    • It works quite well with the adjustibility within each of the programs of the turbolamik. Essentially p1 is drive and lockup comes on like a normal driver.  But in program 7 I have customised it to not request the lockup clutch to engage until something like 6500/7 when slip was the lowest.
    • Yep, I like that. The tags are only on the first post of a thread and we don't get huge numbers of new threads. Also, I plan to add some more report types and we could have a member report type like 'review tags' then members could flag if they thought a topic wasn't tagged correctly.  No way man, I dig the input. Thanks!
    • It's a valid thought. There's not exactly that functionality already (when creating a thread) - that's where the OP can use/create any tag they want. We'd have to come up with a way for the user to request their tags get reviewed or something. Otherwise the mods would have to review every new post's tags (for those that have them, anyway). There's kind of that functionality already exists to some extent, post facto of starting the thread, where the OP or any other user could report the post to admins, and request that tags get reviewed. We could do this already, and any user could already have made such a request. To make it a part of the forum proper, it would require an initial and an ongoing education programme, so that people know that it's a thing. OP based tagging/request for review would also require at least some (probably most) of the user base to be told that it's a thing they can do. Both of these things probably wouldn't spread too far and/or get used very much. If it was the standard approach on a lot of different sites, then it might do, because people would be used to it. Prank's approach to this differs from my original thought, by leaning into tagging. Which is fine - it's possibly better than what I originally suggested. In fact, I just went to the R32 GTR wiring diagram thread and added tags, including "Library". That's probably a good way to use tags and the idea of a library. We just have to drag together an (organised!) index of threads or posts that have that tag. I have yet to do any of my own follow up by pursuing worthy threads and posts and reporting/marking/tagging them for the library, such as the @Sydneykid stuff I was talking about, and possibly any amount of @Lithium 's and others' posts. At least if I tag them Library, we'll have a start.   Back to @Wazmond's idea as it relates to @PranK's, we might have some sort of a list of tags that are already used to scrape for this library. I'm not entirely sure how that would be presented or used, particularly if it got long. But it's yet another idea!   cheers
    • Just a thought, but instead of restricting, is it possible to do like an "up for review" kind of thing? Where say someone who's not an admin/mod tags, it would require approval for it to actually tag? User posts with a 'tag' > Admin/Mod Reviews > Approves tag > Tag now exists kinda thing? Just came across this thread so Im not too sure if Im straying off topic or not but forgive me if i am...
