Rb25Det Engine Noise...

hi guys and gals, if anyone can help me identify this starup noise on my RB25det it would be great....

as much i a hate to think it, im thinking bearing? could be started motor or alternator...?

definately not a bearing. Not an engine at least

It might be starter motor disenging, or maybe a pulley bearing seizing on the AC/PS/Alternator?

well thats a good start then i guess duncan! thanks for the reply...

i'll keep looking...might have to take alternator, PSpump, startor motors off and check them...

i guess if the feel rough, then thats the culpript?

I'd just pull each belt off, one at a time. Just don't run too long without the fan/waterpump/alternator one.

ah cool, so the car will run without the alternator...?

yeah it will run fine off the battery. certainly long enough to prove if either the water pump or alternator is seizing up.

BTW I think it is more likely to be the starter motor not disenging....but the belts are easier to check

Mine makes the exact same noise. (Makes the sound as soon as you turn the key from START back to ON.)

It's the starter. If you let it go for a while longer (few months) it'll start skipping mesh and eventually take out a gear tooth.
