Skyline R34 Gt

Hi guys,

I'm starting to look for a new car and have decided I want an non-turbo R34 GT, ( I'm a P-plater)

I just wanted to ask a few questions;

Whats the average price range for a fairly 'stock' one of these? I'm not looking for a car with heavy mod's as I said i'm on P-plates, so just a legal car for that?

Can they fit a baby seat? and if so is it a comfortable fit for a toddler in a forward facing seat?

I've heard that sometimes its better to import skylines directely from Japan, what are peoples thoughts on this, and also whats the average price range for an import?

Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm new to this and just want to sus it out before I spend the money lol.

I'm pretty sure they can all fit a baby seat, also they have baby restraint added during compliance (when it landed in Aus from Jap)

I wouldn't see why it would be any difference to any other cars? lol. But might be a hassle getting the baby in and out (2 door)

Yes and no.

Yes - it might be in better condition and has less K's (could be wound back)

No - it's not worth importing a R34 GT/GTT from Japan, because there are so many here in Aus, so many to choose from, it's not worth spending extra money just to import one for the sake of importing one. I'm pretty sure there are a few good ones out there. Or better yet, pay a little more and go to an importer that's already have imported it, that way you get to see it in person before buying.

Not sure the price on the car but shipping from Japan, compliance, importer service fees etc could be about 7-10k. Although the car itself could be 5k+ (not too sure).

Good advice with the above post in my opinion. I just wanted to pop in and say welcome to the forum- It will be great seeing other skylines with the baby seat in the back!

read that , they all have baby seat bolts as per compliance requirements . baby seats fit , but it's not a falcodore so don't expect too much room back there . My suggestion is to go search through a couple car yards in your area that would have one , suss it out to see if it's what you want

I picked up my 25GT Coupe for about 12K,

There are 3 Child seat restraints in the back, which I think is a bit excessive for a coupe....but they were added when going through Compliance (They also destroyed one of the speakers when installing them ).

R34's aren't that expensive anymore. Depending on what you want, 2 or 4 door, manual or auto.

An auto sedan is like 8-10k, where as a manual coupe is anywhere between 12-15k

Not sure where you are, but if you are in Melb, I can definitely suggest places for you to check out / drive some R34's.

But for a Skyline... It has to be a coupe

From what i've seen around 14k is a decent deal for what i'm after (either semi auto or manual), and buying local seems a lot easier I'd just been told its cheaper/better to import, but it does seem like a lot of hassle.

Thats perfect that they can fit a baby seat, and the whole getting them in and out of 2 doors wouldn't bother me, i'm still young and fit/ish

Go look in the back of the coupe and see what you think.. It isnt an easy task putting a kid in the back of a coupe.. and the boot space is also small so no carrying baby stuff..

Definitely check the cars out for space etc, they arent the roomiest. But i know for me its no hard task, however my daughter is 3 so she can do all the climbing into the back herself.

I got mine completely stock for 12.5k so yeah 12k is a good price, mine was manual and a coupe too, hopefully it won't depreciate too much by the time i sell it if i leave it stock as rock, good luck to you sir

Well.. Because R34's have been depreciating a lot in the last year or so, I don't think it will be much cheaper (if cheaper at all) to import one.

And to import, you are putting all your money and trust into an importer, as they will be the only people that will have access to the car in Japan and only they can check it out for you, you can't do that yourself.

Tiptronic coupes can be as cheap as 10k, while manual coupes will be a couple of thousand more. But at the end of the day, make sure you get the car checked out by a well skyline-educated mechanic before you buy it... Or else you could end up with a lemon.
