Hi guys! I have a problem with my r34 gt-v (non turbo 2000 model)where the orange engine light comes on and stays on after 4 mins of driving(now it comes on after a minute) a mechanic got the fault code which is 21- “ignition signal primary” after taking $44 from me he told me it was a coil pack and the next day took em apart and tested them and said they were fine and charged me another $120!!! (labour)

done some of my own research and some ideas of what it could be is: COIL PACK, IGNITER UNIT/switch..... although i think the igniter units are on the coil packs in the r34’s.

so..... what would u guys do from here? How much for new coilpacks? Spitfires? Pay another mechanic to test more competently? If so who? Keep driving it until the problem is easier to find? Will this do “Warning damage to the manifold!” lol i mean engine.

Thanx in advanceJ!

It had a slight miss in drive ~ 2 weeks before this happened, was idling at 700-900rpm, I didn't think much of it, ran injector cleaner, new batch of premium and disconnected battery, all was sweet. When I was told coil, it connected the dots.

Others on SAU have suggested u cant really test coils, whats your take on that?

Hey,

Just curious to know where you get your car serviced/Checked? (I live in Bendigo as well)

The guy that works at Nissan recommended me to go to McPherson's Service Centre on 18 Sullivan Street, supposedly he gets his R33 serviced there.

I have yet to go there yet to get my car serviced as I just bought it and everything was already done, but thought I would let you know

Sucks for you that $ 160 is money down the drain, and be prepared to dish out another $120 for labour because its most defintely coilpacks. There are people on here who swear on the Skyline Bible that error 21 is 98% of the time coilpacks, i had the same problem not to long ago. i did the reseach straight away and found that a pin and ecu adapter will give me a code free of charge, i also trusted the guys and gals on here that 21 is infact coilpacks and purchased yellow jackets from our good friends at performance wise, Family mechanic charged me a mad discount for sparkplugs + coilpack installation, Car is running sweet.
