Sorry this isn't correct. Deaths involving street racing would represent <2% of the accidents, and although they are avoidable they in no way deserve the media attention or the money spent by the government that it does when deaths involving inattentive driving would represent 30+% and i have never seen any money spent on combating this issue.

It's just a vote grabber and that is it.

If you start making the penalty not fit the crime that is when you get people running which increases the risk to the general public hugely. What other expiatable offence has a $50,000 fine (in the case of the R34 owner).

agreed... and nuf said.

f**k people are believing this media fueled BS now arent they....

^^^ what you guys don't realise is that Nick/Whiplash WORKS in insurance, and specifically in CTP and injury claims. He deals with these people every day and knows for a fact what sort of cars they drive and what sort of injuries they receive .... you are the ones who are speaking out of turn when you don't actuallly work in the industry and don't have the facts in front of you. If you don't believe that more young people than ever are hurting themselves (and others) in high speed vehicle accidents as a direct reult of the massive power for minimum price cars that are around today, then you are the ones kidding yourselves.

I don't like the current hoon system, but how else do you slow these idiots down? Nothing else seems to work.

Maybe the govt should invest in a racetrack/drag strip and some actual driver training .... but no - that is asking WAY too much.

At least you take it to the track Simon, not the street

I think I remember watching on Top Gear, in Sweden people from around the age of 10 buy cheap cars and enter a rally all to improve road safety and car handling skills from an early age.

believe it or not i used to be one of those guys who was a regular fri/sat night street hoon... this was back in the day when you could cruise city to bay in a J ported rotorwith 52mm ida Webers and get away with it. things have changed and so to have i changed my ways.

Yeah me too mate - it wasn't that long ago (2002) when there were only about 10 SAU members in SA and we all used to meet down at Mitre10 Glenelg and go cruising around the place without a care in the world. We even knew the copper down that way and he used to stop in and say hi to the group. Never got defected and life was good. Boy how times change.

hey cara are u the one with the 34n/a with all the stickers?

hows that drag skyline going any build threads?

yeah mate thats me.

you gonna enter my next dyno day when i get around to organising another one ???

drag skyline slowly slowly. not rushing it gonna be fair busy this next drag season with my photography and journalism but hoping to get some money aside to work the new engine going in a bit. all costs money unfortunatley :(

got a fair bit on with official media for South Coast Raceway & Sunset Strip next season. Plus going to Steel City as long as it doesnt clash with South Coast dates....all in all should be a good season coming up

1/8th mile all the way

I recommened all you girlies who are bagging it to grow some balls and go try it. All the fun stuff happens in the first 200m anyway...

Stop bagging it out, show some support and maybe one day we might have the 1/4 mile track....until then with no support the government will see that and we will still continue to have no 1/4 mile track.......it comes down to all of you!

1/8th mile is sooooo not worth it.

If I lived at Tailem Bend (thinking of it, houses for sale for 100k) or Murray bridge then yeh Id have a go, but seriously you cant even get into the top end of the engines rev range in 200m in a decent gear (2nd gear limiter smashing does nothing for me).

Why the hell cant Adelaide have a motorsport complex? The laws that be want to get hoon driving off the streets, but where the F* can you go?

Would love to have a complex where you can go out friday nights for 1/4mile 400m drag sessions, and saturday night track sessions.

If the Govt can fund a billion dollar hospital, half billion dollar Adelaide Oval upgrade (the Oval is perfect as-is IMHO), etc. then why the hell not a motorsport complex?

Adelaide manufactures Holden (and used to manufcature Mitsubishi) so I feel its kinda ingrained into our culture here to enjoy motor vehicle "sports"......... but its all too hard for the Govt to support a complex - even tho we stage a V8 race that disrupts the city (traffic & residents) each and every year.

*bangs head against (tyre) wall.

and if this stupid carbon tax goes through........holdens may end up overseas :( so there goes my job and alot of other peoples jobs too

your probably spot on the money right their, i would go but i suspect by the time church finishes and i got up their all spots would be taken

Most of us build our cars to go fast around corners, flogging it for 200m just doesnt interest the greater majority of us. a full quarter however, does.

(taking a little bit of liberty with my statements here, all very much imho)

To elaborate if I may :O Id definitely agree with that and suggest that most of us have little interest in drag racing as a sport.

The 1/8 is, then, of little interest, as I would say that the impact that the driver has on the time plays a proportionately more significant impact on the time that can be achieved rather than the car for itself - and thats important when most of us want to use a 'drag race' as a measuring stick of our cars & their current tune; it's more difficult and less accurate to see big gains over short runs.

Just my 2c.

Spot on Damo. I personally am not interested in drag racing, but grip every time :D

gee i must be really old i remember going to the old carpark at glenelg when it was right in front of the jetty in my 327 chev powered lj torrie then cruise down to torrens island for the friday night street drags .

hardly anyone got busted and if ya did cop a defect you would line up on a saturday waiting in turn to get ya defect off at the thebarton police barracks .

ah the good old days lol.

    • Bit of an update to this one. Having some issues on the dyno that held us back (boost spiking) and I want to pass some info over you guys and see what you think is wrong with my setup. The current readout on this dyno is 462rwkw on a low reading dyno so keep in mind it is a real world 500rwkw setup on a hub dyno. Don't read into the power figure too much as a sign of the issue. The short and curly of it is: 2.8 Litre Racepace build RB25 NEO N/A Head with VCT (internally standard however ) Borgwarner EFR 8474  Turbosmart 50mm Straight Gate + Mac valve 6Boost Manifold 4" dump to full 4" exhaust (nil restrictions) Wastegate plumbed back in and all angles in the exhaust system are acceptable and not too sharp. GFB SV52 BOV in cooler piping  Turbosmart BOV in EFR Housing   The issue we are having is it comes onto full boost for example at 4000rpm and spikes to 24/25psi, before dropping down to 17psi before slowly rising back up to the target boost of 23psi. It was extremely uncontrollable and the tuner actually had to ramp in boost progrssively with each 1000rpm on each boost setting we selected to try and reduce the amount of spiking. Sometimes we would see a drop of 10psi from the peak at the beginning of the run, to the low, until it took the next 500-1000rpm to stabilise back up to the target boost. The tuner is pretty confident that the straight gate is just a poorly designed product and leaks too much boost upon cracking the gate open and theres no way to fix it other than going to a poppet valve. He's also confient theres no ignition breakdown or floating valves. The fueling is extremely stable as well. Turbo speed is somewhere around the 109,000rpm area. The spanner in the works for me is that prior to this Borgwarner and StraightGate, the car was tuned on -5 twins at a diferent tuner, and he also had issues controlling the boost with it spiking around the same rpm range, so to me this sounds like the same issue and it can't be anything on the turbo side as this was all changed and I think the behaviour is extremely similar, if not the same. We also removed the mac valve and did a run on wastegate pressure and it still spiked and had the same behaviour. My thoughts on possibilities are: Boost Leak VCT Cam Gear isn't reliably activating consistently - (On this however, we did a run with the VCT disabled and the boost still spiked) Turbosmart BOV is not handling the boost? However this seems unlikely to not be able to handle 20psi. I have a couple of logs that I can't make sense of if anybody knows how to read them and can obtain further logs of other parameters if they are not enough, happy to pay for anyones time. The dyno readout with the power figure is the most recent last week. The other picture is from two weeks prior to that where we couldn't break 400kw (we removed the cat), however the issue of the boost control persisted. @Lithium @Piggaz @burn4005 @GTSBoy @discopotato03 I've tagged those that were quite active in recent pages here, no disrespect to those that know turbos well but I missed tagging. Cheers
    • I recently purchased a 2018 Infiniti Q60, which has an SD card navigation map. I can see my system has options for real time traffic updates etc, and am wondering if there is something I can purchase to get this working? I can see there are at least updated maps for USA and Canada, but nothing for Australia. Surely Infiniti took changing road systems and city expansions into account when they decided to use an inbuilt navigation over Android Auto/Apple Car Play, or are we doomed to drive on streets that don't exist in the navigation system if you drive to a new area?
    • Luckily I didn't put in etch primer as I just found out it's not compatible with my body filler lol. Also just need to sand the panel anywhere between 150-400 grit so I'm in the clear there. It does say to not apply to soft old paint, I assume that means paint that is flaking, peeling, etc
    • @dbm7 and @GTSBoy thank you both very much! will give that a shot!
