just a question Jenna.....you must be loving our PM this week

Huh. Just googled - serves me for not reading news.

Guessing you're referring to Julia Gillard backs gay marriage conscience vote

Bit of a shame that Australia continues to lag behind the rest of the world with providing equality and equal rights for everybody. Ahh wells. Give it time. A few decades ago women didn't even have the vote.

i love the hole religion/christianity thing

one question will always stump any believer in OUR GOD WILL SAVE US ALL CRAP

ready for it

WHY DO BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE ..........................i dare a christian to give a straight answer

i like stirring but u will never get a half decent answer anytime, they can bang on about how god loves everyone blah blah but just answer this

Why shouldn't relationships - between people of whatever gender - be treated with the same respect and given the same rights as heterosexual couples take for granted?

Things like 'civil unions' and or domestic partnerships rarely provide the same rights as 'real' marriage.

Really, this is about establishing the same rights for everybody.

Besides, why shouldn't homosexual couples experience the same crazy 'lets get married - whoops we made a mistake - divorce' cycle that heterosexuals have been enjoying forever? ;)

fair enough, and I could be wrong here, but hasn't legislation in the last year been passed to allow more rights in same sex relationships without the need for marriage......ie. settlement of property and now superannuation as long as you live together?

nar no way, a marrage should only be between a bloke and a woman cause ..................i mean ....................who would do the dishes and cook tea if it was 2 blokes weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I love the arguments against gay marriage... "It degrades the sanctity of marriage" (or stupidity to that effect)..

I would say - if you wanna keep marriage sacred, Ban divorce.

Case closed.

-D

Edit - I appreciate SLEDS post, but the very reasons pointed out can also be applied to heterosexual relationships. Don't need to get married to cohabitate (its called defacto). I did lol at Jets post tho. It'd be confusing as to who is supposed to make the sandwiches but thats another story :) Marriage is a symbolic thing nowadays, has been since common law marriage was introduced (that is legal marriage as opposed to religious marriage). And since its symbolic, who cares?

Edit 2 - and at the end of the day, same sex couples getting married in no way cheapens any vows anyone makes to anyone else, regardless of gender or religious belief. You swear an oath in front of your deity (or the law) then it comes down to your own honor and how serious you are about keeping your word - infidelity is another thing I'd say that cheapens the sanctity of marriage, but what do I know...

There's been additions to various things - like superannuation, recognition of same-sex couples living together recognised as 'de-facto' and a few other things.

However, these do not provide the same rights as a real 'marriage'.

Basically as things stand now - homosexual couples have the same rights as an unmarried heterosexual couple when living together. This covers things like taxation, social security and health, aged care and employment.

Heterosexual or homosexual defacto couples do not have the same rights as a heterosexual married couple.

on the religion thing again.. those that believe in creation and the earth is 5000 years old and all that crap and disprove prehistoric life... have you heard of carbon dating?! its not shit made up by scientist with nothing better to do....

i mean imagine how many weeks would pass b4 the bin went out if it was 2 chicks

at least the bin would be full of feathers from all the pillow fights mmmmmmm
